Default .99

Please Login to Remove!

I've been looking everywhere and i cant seem to find the upgrade to .99 for the 9530. I've never been in to betas but i'm so tired of .75 and i''ve been thinking about switching to the curve but i love my storm so much and i dont want to give it up. With all the hype about .99 it sounds like a god-send!

Crackberrydotcom has it.

I've been on .99 for a week. Honestly, the only difference so far is the full qwerty keyboard in portrait mode.

Screen orientation was initially quicker but I really don't detect any major difference from .75.

I use the phone for calls, SMS / MMS, messenger and occasionally internet. I am seeing nothing major that would compel me to characterize it as a "dream".

What about .75 "tires" you because it ran fine for me.

My opinion is pretty much the same as XelhaBB's. Everything seems the same to me, except the camera is much faster and now portrait mode has a full keyboard. I still prefer SureType in portrait mode, though. I wasn't having any problems with .75, and I'm glad I'm not having any problems with .99 either. If you've been having problems, upgrading may help. If not, I wouldn't stress out too much about not being able to find it.

I tried the QWERTY in portrait mode, but find SureType better for my one handed typing.
I did try .99 for a bit, but went back to .75 as folks on the other end told me the voice quality was better.

For me, portrait to landscape orientation seems to be a little quicker.

I also noticed that the Exiting Bedside Mode feature in the Clock app actually works. Previously on .75, clicking Yes or No would result in a Entering Bedside Mode, not exiting.

The camera is much improved, when you click to take a picture, it is more of an immediate click/flash instead of a 3-4 second delay. The clarity of the pictures seems better too. The camera interface seems a little different as well, more transparent.

The Device Locked screen looks different to me. There is now a line dividing Unlock/Cancel and Emergency.

A full QWERTY keyboard in Portrait View is great but geez those keys are small. I disliked SureType although MultiTap was bearable.

Google Maps 3.0.1 still doesn't work. I tried adding the Poynt application and it does enable GM within the Poynt application but not in stand-alone mode. VZNavigator works well for me but I still prefer Telenav.

When typing in a URL in the address bar, there is now a Go button highlighted in green. I don't recall seeing that before.

Lastly, although it may just be me, accuracy on the touchscreen seems improved as well.

So far no crashes, in .75 I would get an occasional crash while in the car or when the device is laying flat on a table. Perhaps an accelerometer issue? Anyway, so far I am pleased with this revision. I am looking forward to the carrier release. In spite of all the hype, the Storm is clearly not for everyone, just like the trackball vs thumbwheel debate from the past.

Been on .99 since the day it came out and no lockups, no freezes, no miscues, no battery pulls, one auto re-boot, nothing but good performance. It is much quicker in every aspect and I have no problems with 3rd party apps - they, too, work fine. I will be hard pressed for a good reason to give it up when the next official VZW OS is released.

I just got done installing .99 and I noticed a big difference in switching from landscape to profile modes.

The keyboard appears slighty smaller, but that could be an illusion b/c the keys are not bolded like they were in .75.

I have to agree that the profile full keyboard is very tiny, but seems to work very well with key recognition so far.

Picture viewing seems faster and switching did too, but then it hung on me for a few...so somethings are better others aren't I guess unless that was an anomoly.

Opening apps and swithcing from one to another is noticeable at least to me st this moment.

No crashes as of yet, but will report back with any other differences good or bad.

I didn't realize .99 would give you QWERTY in portrait, that sounds great. I don't care for for the other two modes. Maybe I'm too stubborn to try to learn, but I find them counter-intuitive. Thanks for the info. Now to figure out if I can install a beta OS on a VZW Storm while in Europe and still have all service books, etc. sent.

Default .103 is out!

Well look at this - just as I got brave enough to search and install .99 I find that .103 is now out there in the wild...
