Fixed the backup and restore for word substitution, finally! More memory freed up as well...like another 5MB. I believe the fix was from the 6.1 DM I installed, not the new OS.

Also fixed in this release - the issue whereby a reboot caused the home screen to revert back to the BB stock image. Better battery life as well - no doubt about it! Faster WiFi connectivity too!

Thanks for the links. I was delayed in getting to this update but am I ever glad that I did! There is one major fix in this....the "double character while typing" problem is completely gone....woohooo!

I was convinced (as were many others in this forum) that this common 9780 problem was due to a hardware flaw. Many people reported switching their phones several times with their carrier before it was resolved. It had gotten so bad that I was considering getting rid of the 9780.

Lo and behold...updated to 6.0.0.526 and the problem is completely gone! I have been testing it like crazy foe the past couple of days and have not had a single double character. Previously I could not type a complete sentence without getting some (especially double spaces that caused autotype to end the sentence :( )

Other than that major fix, I haven't really noticed anything different since memeory usage and battery life were not an issue before.

This release is a keeper.

BS on the double typing being fixed. It was the 1st thing I looked for. It's the same as it's been for months for me. More junk from RIM...wow...they build these things with such poor QC. No wonder Apple and everyone else is eating up market share. I'm so fed up with this garbage I'm debating moving away from RIM altogether...if only I could find something that beats the BES...

Don't know what to say but it is not BS in my case.

I had the double space problem severely and it suddenly went away with the .526 update. Nothing else has changed for me and I wasn't even expecting it to be fixed since I assumed it was hardware.

Rather than calling out BS, why don's you spend the few bucks and by a new keyboard as suggested in another post. If I was still having the problem or if it returns, I will be ordering one as quick as I can.

Cheers

Because, it may be something more than just a keyboard, and it's under warranty. I have wiped and reloaded .526 twice now...and still have the double type issue. No one else has reported this to be software, but there have been a few reports about it having gone away with a replacement phone. I wish it was software, because I wouldn't lose my 9780 for 2 weeks while the idiots repair it. Bell does not exchange phones...only repair.

I'm going to load 534 and see if that fixes the issue or not...but am not hopeful.

Steve:

Two weeks??? Can't you get advanced replacement? I know we do through Rogers. New device is in-hand within 48hrs usually. Comes with a UPS bag to ship the old one back in.

I just swapped the keyboard from my 9700 to my 9780 - problem solved...except that I now have the silver dividers between the rows instead of black. It is NOT a software issue; it's definitely hardware related.

Rogers does and and Bell used to, but no more at Bell. Hence my profile comment.

Ahhh, couldn't see your profile, I was posting from my BB.

That seriously sucks. And yeah, as soon as I got a replacement and the issue was gone running the exact same software.... I knew it was a device problem.

I've had this happen a time or two on other devices. I've always been successful at fixing this problem by deleting the theme settings database using desktop manager. Then setup your device again and all should be good to go.

Hmmmm, that's one I never thought about. I had this issue through at least 5 beta releases, but on .526, it was seemingly no longer an issue, as with .534 as well!

I've had 526 on since it leaked, but now I'm living with ridiculous memory bleed. I'm living with a 5 second hourglass every 40 seconds.

If 534 isn't any better, ill put 480 leak on. It was perfect for about 30 days, until I loaded 526.

There is no real memory leak on the 9780 with any of the recent OS's. Your profile shows a 9700, not a 9780. This thread is about the 9780 OS release. Are you sure you aren't using a 9700? That's where we have seen memory leaks, not on the 9780. 5-second hourglass sounds like the 9700 using OS6, but even at that, these past several releases don't exhibit those symptoms on the 9700. You likely have something else going on on your device...like maybe a 3rd party app causing issues...

Looks like I spoke too soon about it being software related. I am now having the problem but not nearly as much as before...weird.

Keyboard membrane swap is next for me.

...and that will fix the problem, but if I were you, I'd buy the keyboard for the 9700 instead. That one has no issues, and if you have the 9780 keyboard replaced with same...you may see the problem resurface again. Just my .02...

BTW, I see them online for about $10.00-$12.00 + shipping...

Steve:

If he's under warranty, and with Rogers, wouldn't it be wiser for him to get a replacement device rather than voiding the warranty on this one?
