Question 8520 Earpiece Problem

Please Login to Remove!

I was busy talking on my 8520 when all of a sudden I could not hear the other person and since then, ni volume comes from the earpiece. The loud speaker and headset will work though. I tried restarting, turning the enhanced audio off and the mute button but nothing turns the sound on. Any ideas?

When you restarted, how did you do it? A proper hard reset is performed by removing the battery while the BlackBerry is powered on, then waiting at least 30 seconds before replacing the battery. If that isn't the way you did it, then do it again the right way and then test.

My guess, though, is that either the speaker has failed or a connection has separated. Did you happen to drop it before the problem? Or get it wet?

No, I never dropped it, and was in the middle of a phone call when it happened. Which I thought was weird. I turned the bb off before i took the battery out. I'll try it with the bb on and see if that works. Is there a way to restore the entire bb back to factory seettings? Like a complete reset?

In security options, either somewhere on the screen or in the menu is a 'security wipe' selection. Unless you are using an old OS, there will be an option to delete 3rd party apps. That will clear all data and settings and return everything to defaults, leaving apps. Or, you can totally wipe the device with JL_CMDER (see the FAQ) and remove everything, and then reinstall the OS package.

However, it really does sound like the speaker has failed. If the hard reset doesn't fix it, that is what I would conclude.
