Default Does the Pearl not have a Cap Lock function?

Please Login to Remove!

I found nothing about it in the manual nor in the forum, but it's mentioned in the Abbreviation List, funny enough. (CAP lock: Capital letter lock) Only way I know of for now is to hold the shift key while you type.

I can do Num Lock (hold the Shift key and press the Alt key) but no cap lock. I had a 7xxx series BB for a few weeks, and I'm pretty sure I could do cap lock with it.

I don't know if you have a Pearl or not, but there's only one shift key on these.

As you can see, there's an alt key all the way on the bottom left, and one shift key bottom row (# symbol), to the left of the enter key.

And if anyone can find a Caps Lock function on the Pearl, let me know too...

I can't find one or figure it out.

The online help does not mention one, and the tips and tricks document specific to the 8100 from T-Mobile does not mention one.

This is unbelievable if it doesn't have one. I have been trying to figure this out since I got mine in the beginning of Dec.

If the sole reason you are looking for a CAPS lock function is for the purpose of typing a word in all caps, (I suppose that would be the only reason wouldnt it? )

Try This:

Type your word as you normally would just hold each button as you type for about a whole second and a half. As you hold it you will see the letter change from lower to upper case.

A little time consuming yes, but beats hitting the # sign inbetween letters.
Plus a better one-handed way to type IMHO

thanks, I guess I'll have to do with this method. I just can't believe that RIM would not put a ALL CAPS on the Pearl.

Thanks again brfilora.

why would they?? don't really think there is much of a demand for a mature (not necessarily in age, but in mentality) user to write in all caps.

Whats the purpose? and if there isn't one why waste a key function?

First off, thats just silly. All caps are often used for acronyms, etc. More important for me would be a Numlock feature. I know you can hold down the alt button, but that is a real pain in the ass when typing lots of numbers.

So then why do they have the feature in other BB's, smarty pants?

For the 7xxx series BB, "to turn on CAP lock, press the Alt key + the Right
Shift key" from the manual.

Num lock, as I said in my original post, is done by holding the Shift key and pressing the Alt key. The other way around gives you the # sign.

Well, I don't type messages in all caps, I know that is not proper electronic correspondence behavior and I find it extremely annoying myself. But when I want to type acronyms and the like, it is useful like other posters have said.

Default Same question

I bought my Pearl on January 1 and asked the same question. Of course, no one in the store knew. I called Cingular and of course, they did not know, so they patched me through to RIM and low and behold, whoops, they forgot to put it in. I was told to email their support department and put in my suggestion for it. So we may see it added in a software upgrade sometime. Key is sometime!! I will wait and see. So until know the cap lock is hot down the shift key and type in the letters....arggggh.

Now see THIS is what gets out of hand........ the poster is asking for technical help not an outside opinion on his mental maturity and then these threads get off topic and detracts from the main point.

A valid question is asked and if you don't know the answer it would be greatly appreciated if you would allow someone that can contribute in a positive way.

Just because YOU do not see a legitimate use for all caps does not mean that others do not have a particular need for this function.

Thanks for letting me get this out in the open maybe it will encourage those that think they can offer help to jump in without fear of getting jumped on.
