Default Losing Group Addresses

Please Login to Remove!

Wonder if any of you experience wacky group addresses in your address book?

I create group address, select members into the group, saved the group. I emailed to this group just fine, and made sure the members are indeed sent.

However, once in a while, the members in the group disappeared or the entire group went awol, and I have not touched any of these individual members.

I do sync my calendar (ONLY calendar, not address or anything else) with my work computer using DM and Outlook/Exchange. I have a slight suspicious that this is somewhat affecting my address book. I have sync for many years with my 8830 and with my 9630 and i start to notice this problem only for past few months.

Anyone?

I've never had a problem like that.

You seem to indicate you are on BES. Are you?

When a contact disappears from the group, does it just drop from the group or also from you contacts database altogether?

For what it's worth, last time I looked, the actual group entry in my contacts on the device (created on the device) does not sync into Outlook on my PC. Said another way, if I create a group on my device and then sync, that group does not show up in Outlook. At least that's the way it was when I looked a few years ago.

I do not sync up my address book between Outlook and my Tour. I sync only the appointments. I use BIS not BES. The individual address entries are still valid and in the address book. Just that the members of the group entry were dropped, and sometimes the whole group got dropped (but the group name itself is still in the address book).

I don't know. Weird.

Have you observed any other strange behavior? Spontaneous reboots?

I've never experienced the blackberry losing data.

nothing out of whack. and im not exactly losing data. Just those group addresses not keeping individual addresses in or losing them all. Ill just have to watch it closely and catch a pattern somewhere. Im just glad i did not lose any individual addresses though.

thanks.

You're right. Losing data wasn't the correct way to state it. Still, I've used groups some, over three different models and I don't know how many OS versions, and never had that happen. It's weird.

One other thought: I wonder if there is any change to the data for a contact that gets dropped. Have you looked at it that close, that is the contact's entries before, when added to the group, and then after it is dropped? Any change?

No, the contacts were unchanged. For example, the email addresses for my girls were in my address books individually. I created a group "Girls" and added these three as members of this group, saved it. When I compose an email, i type "girls" and accepted the suggested name "Girls". When I send it out it would send the message to all three. That works just fine for me. Sometimes when I compose an email and select "girls", I either get an error saying that the group is empty or has undeliverable address. So I go to my address book and checked "Girls" entry and see either missing entries or empty list.
I am suspecting when I sync up my BB to my Outlook (just for calendar), something is messing my address book somehow? I will continue to monitor and find a pattern or cause one day.

I'm having the same problem. I had a few groups that had about 50 members each....now there's only about 7 members in each group.

The odd thing is that the members are still in the address book.

It's worth noting I did run a firmware update a few days ago, but since I dont use the groups often I just noticed the missing members today.

Help!

If you are sync'ing with outlook or something, I wonder if the contact is being changed somehow, even if just over-written by Outlook (or whatver) such that the blackberry sees it as changed, and this causes the blackberry to drop it from the group. I agree this wouldn't be sat if that is what is happening. I'm just trying to speculate on ideas that might explain what's happening that you wouldn't notice.

Perhaps you could test it by editing something in, say, the street address, on the computer, then sync, and see if that contact gets dropped from the group.

Just grasping for ideas here. As I said above, I've used groups, but never had this problem.

For me I do not sync my address book with Outlook at all. I only sync the calendar. I keep my address books separate.
