Kurichan and Joolie,
Please remind me. Were you running 4.7 just before this build? I pose the question because I think the battery life is better on this build than on .230

Yes, from 4.7 to 5.0 here. But, like I said, I was using Pandora for a few hours today, so that probably did my battery in. I'll keep and eye on it.

Mine is working fine. Tested both switching to it at the start of the call and in the middle of a call.

1. Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager to your PC (came with the CD you got with your device, or you can download it from BlackBerry.com - get version 5.0). Only need to do this once.
2. Download the OS file to a PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
3. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
4. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

From there you will be able to check/uncheck options to add/remove (i.e., languages you don't want you can uncheck).

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

My battery did better with 5.0 because the connectivity was better, so for now I am blaming Pandora

i just downloaded it. i'm happy it has "today theme". seems to be pretty stable. battery life doesn't seem too improved over the 4.7 for me. signal strength is the same as before. i had a full battery at 7 pm and i was recharging at 930 pm. i wasn't listening to slacker or anything strange like that. charge time seems about the same as well. thanks for the link

The upgrade from 4.7 (.65) to 5.0 (.418) went smooth for me. Some apps needs reinstalling (BBM, AOL, etc.). Happy to see free Files included, so I can do away with FileCabinet Pro. Other than that did not see much difference in battery/signal so far (only 24 hours so far).

A couple observations:

Battery life significantly lessened compared to .230
Opera Mini 4.2 no longer works (I like it much better than 5 beta 2)
Cool OS 5 media folder icon changed to a blue play button icon - a downgrade IMO

All other systems are a go!

I had Opera Mina 5 Beta 2 working in .230 and also in this latest .419. When you click on a link in email it gives you "Open in Opera Mini 5" or "Open in Native Browser" options. If you click the Opera option it doesn't actually load said link, but just fired up Opera. I don't like the fact that you cant paste an external link into Opera Mini 5 so it seems a bit useless. I used http://mini.opera.com/next/minibb.ja...31278&bbfw=4.7 for the install.

Boot time is faster for me. My device was booting in 13-14 minutes on 4.7.1 and is now booting in about 8 minutes. I would love to bring that down to 4 minutes, with 2 minutes being the ultimate sweet spot.

I don't know what I did, but I plugged my phone into the blackberry desktop manager last night and it told me that there was a new OS for my phone. I downloaded it and this is what I got

No one else in the home has a blackberry so I don't know how it got on my computer. But it is working so far..... :D

Did what jsker did and voila, Sprint Navigation works. Now at version 2.8.
Removed all of the Google apps except for Google sync.
Now, how do I delete double calendar listings. There are default and gmail to choose from. I only use the gmail, I am not sure why there is a default calendar.

I upgraded from 230 to 417.

Another anecdotal observation: it seems that the culprit is the Phone application - the Phone app in 417 seems to suck much more juice than 230.

Today I didn't use my phone much and I only lost 1.5 bars and it's 7:30 already. With 230, on a day like today, I'd be below 1/2 at this point.

So my guess is the Phone app...

Does anyone happen to run Lotus Sametime for BB? I am on 8.0.1 and it crashes hard with a Java null pointer error on 5.0.0.419, but everything else is awesome. The Tour is a new (more snappy) phone with a good 5.x load !!

Any thoughts on Sametime? I did an uninstall, reboot, re-install ... same results.
