Default Duplicate IMAP emails on Storm

Please Login to Remove!

We run our own corporate mail server here. It's IMAP based on DoveCot.

Our CEO has a storm on VZW. He says whenever he reads an email on his BB it sends him the identical email again every time he reads an email. The emails are marked as read in Outlook on his desktop.

The order is he is notified of new email - reads email - closes the email - gets notified of another new email which is the same email he just read.

I looked at the mail spool and his desktop outlook and both have just one copy of each email.

What's wrong with the setup on his blackberry to cause this? Not using BIS - just did the direct setup on the BB going direct to our mail server.

You need to setup filter(s) on Blackberry internet Server. If you search the VZW support page, there should be a link, or you can call the customer service to get the link.

The symptom on the issue is simular when you setup any other internet mail on your Storm, like Gmail, the Blackberry Internet Server can not identify the specific mail box as the way by other mail server like Exchange, therefore, any mails, receipts, send items, etc. all ended up in one mail box.

All you need to do is to set some filters on Blackberry Internet Server, where it pick up and deliver the mail to your Storm, to filter out any items that is either generated by your own account, such asn send items, read receipts, etc. The setup process is fairly simple and easy to understand as soon as you long into the Blackberry Internet Server.

Hmm... I didn't go through the BIS to set this up. I just clicked on the Email and set it up directly on the BB with our server address, his login credentials, etc.

Does the storm then talk to the BIS to set up the connection??

Correct. When you set the mail up on the Strom, it acturally "register" an email account on BIS. In fact, you should receive a SMS from BIS to comfirm that account has been set. When you log onto BIS, you have many options that you can apply to the email account you have set with BIS.

Here is the link for BIS (for Verizon service): https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw

I would try to set this to "YES" (in BIS via the link above):

Deleted items: Synchronize deleted items between this mailbox and my device.

Just FYI.

When I had my BB8830 hooked to my school Exchange server via IMAP (BIS, no BES) I would get behavior similar to this. Whenever I read an e-mail on my desktop Outlook OR via the web I would get a duplicate on my BB. Don't know if this is the issue you are talking about but just in case:

I eventually got it straightened out by managing to get BIS to hook to my School's webmail. That is, I can also access my mail through Outlook on the web and if BIS is set up with THIS info THEN you will get much better behavior than through IMAP.

So if you can access your mail on the web you have a chance; otherwise I'm afraid those dups will be sent every time you open a message on the desktop or web.

There is a new product you might want to try; it is called ATLAS GMV and it is essentially a connector that allows you to connect a BES to your Dovecot server. In that way your CEO will have his email always in perfect sync and will not have to expose IMAP on the Internet (BES to Dovecot connection is internal to your network).
