GM 3.0.1 does not work (currently) work with the GPS in a Storm 9530 that is on Verizon. If you unlock a 9530 and use it with a different carrier, or if you have a Storm 9500, it does work (reportedly).

3.0.1 working here with GPS, no changes, same as before.

VZW Storm 9350, 4.7.0.99 firmware, just installed (and rebooted per it's request) GMM 3.0.1 - it gives me the msg that it cannot access the gps (yes, it is turned on to the real gps - not just e911, & trapster can use it). From the location it did put me, it is using the cell phone triangulation instead of the built in GPS (my TomTom shows me right where I am). So to agree with pretty much everyone else, the storm gps is not working with GMM301.

Wish I could help. I downloaded Telenav and it works... however Google Maps 3.0.1 does not work.... which IS what we're here for.

This would lead me to believe that it is a GMM problem, not Verizon.

JSanders.. you are using an unlocked Storm on AT&T, correct? Or, are you saying that your GM 3.0.1 is working on your Storm with VZW?

I will say this, VZNav and BBmaps work fine for me on Verizon. GM Yes and no. When I am at the house, GM always shows me in the same location. Seven miles from my house to the southwest. Could GM be using cell tower locations instead of GPS?

Yes. That's how GM works when GPS isn't available.

Funny, GM works perfectly on my wife's LG phone on Verizon, but not my Blackberry. Could it be that is because the LG was purchased way before VZNav was released?

I appologize if there was confusion in what I said. Where I said GM, I meant Garmin Moble not Google Maps. lol

I know Garm Mbl just as good because I tested the it and my wife's Nuvi side-b-side. For location, they were identical. Now, realize i didn't compare GPS coords or get a tape measure out. lol.

The Garmin Mobile on my Storm worked a tad bit better than the Nuvi at finding addresses because Garmin Mobile pulls addresses from the most recent info off the web and the Nuvi has software that requires periodic updates from Garmin.

You'd better check into what your claiming to be true. GPS is unlocked for the Storm which runs OS 4.7. The claim one of the other posts where Verizon opened GPS on 12/1/08 or around that time, is true.

BTW, I didn't use a tape measure when I said 30 feet but Google maps is broken on the Storm and will ONLY get Cell Triangulation. Garmin Mobile, Nav4All, BBmaps, and Trapster work great on GPS and OS 4.7.

It's posted on other forums that Google admits they need to update their software (interface or whatever).

Use punctuation much?

This question was regarding the Storm 9530 (CDMA/Verizon), not 9500 (GSM/Vodafone).

I don't if this would clear anything up, or would confuse other people, but ...

I have Storm 9530 with latest Google Maps 3.0.1 installed. While on CDMA (i.e. in US) Google Maps only uses tower triangulation and tells me that GPS is temporarily unavailable. This week I traveled to Europe and as my Storm switched to GSM, Google Maps started to used GPS and shows my position within 20 feet. I am not sure how radio stack in use affects GPS operation, but somehow it does.

GPS works on the 9530 if you switch the network to GSM, but you can't place calls or anything.

per Carbine Guy, I just tried this, and it's true. I do NOT have an unlocked Storm, on VZW service. If I manually change the "Mobile Network" setting of "Network Technology" to GSM/UMTS, it work perfectly. However, there is no telephone or data. If I change it back to the default Global, it's a no go.

I've said this many times before, but this it NOT a VZW issue. It's an issue within Google Maps.

This "solution" doesn't help much when you don't have data service via GSM provider.

Remember, Google Maps requires data, so if you don't have data, it's like trying to walk on water.

I'm with Verizon and my Maps application works fine for GPS. At least it appears to, I've had no occasion yet to use it.

My wife insist that Verizon does not make GPS available unless you use their GPS system. I advised her that as of 12/1/08 this was changed.

Am I correct in my understanding?
