Angry How can I sync with Bluetooth WITHOUT pressing "YES" every time??

Please Login to Remove!

I have 8700c and using Blackberry desktop 4.1.1.9 & the built in Bluetooth software from XP SP2. I set everything up according to the instructions and I can sync successfully via Bluetooth (its fast!) but its annoying, every time I connect via BT, blackberry desktop throws up this dialog box:

duhhhh yes of COURSE i want to connect, why else would I have connected?? I read on here about other people syncing automatically when they walk into their home or office etc. This is what I really want but it defeats the purpose sort of if I have to press YES every time. I don't know why there isn't a "always allow" checkbox or something.

any advice?? i know some people are doing this but maybe I missed a setting somewhere... ?

Default Trust

Go to device properties under Bluetooth and change "Trusted" to Yes!

If you are talking about the device properties for my desktop machine, on the phone itself... then I already have it set to "trusted". The desktop machine is still prompting me.

I dont use it, so I cant help you, but HERE are the official instructions.

Moving this to the Bluetooth forum. You may get more responses there.

yep.. I followed those instructions to the letter. Still get the "do you want to connect" dialog every time my BB comes into range. its a real annoyance. At least with the USB cable, as soon as I plug it in, it just syncs and goes away quietly with no intervention.

Help!

I managed to get BT sync to work yesterday and I do not have any pre-sync messages, but not sure why... it may be because when I did the first sync or 2 the BB first asked me to authorize an incoming connection from the PC, and I ticked the "do not ask again" box on the BB screen.

well it's not my BB that's asking to confirm the connection-- it's the desktop PC. I never saw any box that said "don't ask again" on the PC.

This is driving me NUTS as now every time I leave the room and come back in I have to dismiss a dialog box. I can't turn bluetooth off because I use a BT headset.

ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHH!!!!!
can anyone lend a hand here?

Ok relax, look at this:

Open up your Blue Tooth Icon on the system tray, go to options, check to make sure that under Connections, you have a checkmark on the box that says Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer. This is where those prompts are coming from I am sure of it.

KonTiki, thank you for trying to help, but that Is exactly how I have my bluetooth control panel configured. The alert still pops up. I am sure it is coming from the Blackberry software and not from Windows.

Which BB desktop software are you running? 4.1.1.12? maybe there is a registry setting somewhere that controls this annoying behavior?

edit: whats WEIRD is that if I quit BB Desktop and then re-launch it, it syncs via BT automatically with no confirmation. I only get the "do you want to sync" dialog box if I leave BB Desktop running and turn Bluetooth off then back on on the 8700, or leave the room and come back. arggg

I am running the same desktop software as you so I am at a loss then, I have the same issue if I leave the room with the headset on I hear when it releases the link, and when I get back I hear it again when it is in range but my pc does nothing at all as far as asking for authentication or confirmation.

could you possibly export the following registry key and post it here or PM it to me?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion

I want to compare it to mine to see if there is some setting that may be wrong on my system. I dont think there is any personal info or passwords in that key.

hmmmmmmmm you SURE about that?? because on a hunch, I uninstalled 4.1.1.12 and installed the 4.1.0.8 from the CD that came with my BB and VOILA... no more connection confirmation dialog.

So it seems that this is caused by something in the newer release . I am going to try "upgrading" my 4.1.0.8 to 4.1.1.12 and see if this bug resurfaces. This is ANNOYING.

Wow, my computer had crashed and I had to reinstall things, when I saw this post just now when I came back to the computer, I went and looked to make sure because I know I had downloaded the newest, but guess what in my hurry to reinstall things I did not pay enough attention and I did reinstall the 08 version which is the oldest, since I saw no issues I did not bother to check and assumed it was the newer version. But you are absolutely correct. Great call man. Post the results if it is indeed the newer version the culprit because I will not install it. Sorry it took this long but had stepped away from the computer, as a matter of fact I had just about gotten ready to export the reg key when I saw this.

well, more information...

I have now tested with the following versions of BB Desktop Software:
(these version #s are from the about box)

4.1.0.8 = OK
4.1.0.10 = OK
4.1.1.9* = NOT WORKING

*note that 4.1.1.9 is what you get when you install the "4.1.1.12" package which is the latest version as of this writing.

I did a string search of all the files in the RIM directories in Program Files and Common Files and found that the dialog box is contained in:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\product.dll

I confirmed this using a program called XN Resource Viewer. The working (i.e. non-annoying) versions of BB software do not even contain the offending dialog box in the product.dll file. So for now I have settled on using the 4.1.0.10 software (which is actually called "4.1.0.13" on RIMs download site)

HELLO RIM DEVELOPERS- PLEASE REMOVE THIS QUITE USELESS AND ANNOYING DIALOG BOX AND REMEMBER...
IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT THANK YOUUUUUUUU!

bullsh-t... what version are you running? I doubt this very much. I tried this on 4 different machines with identical results every time. Setting 'trusted' to yes on the BB had no bearing on whether the desktop prompted to sync. With the latest version 4.1.1.12 it *always* asks you to confirm.

I have actually emailed a few people at RIM about this and they said they would pass it along to the developers so we can only cross our fingers and hope that they fix this annoyance in the next desktop version.
