dcomiskey I would suggest moving to this tool if you can. I moved to it at the start of the year and haven't looked back. Free and scriptless  .

And it ZIPs as well, personally it quartered the amount of sapce needed for backup.

Grr. I am trying to set it up. I can test the connections fine, but I am getting the error: Failed to retrieve databases from the SQL server. Invalid object name "sys.databases." |

I think you've got corruption issues then - sys.databases contains, you guess it, a list of databases contained in server/session. Time to pull out SQL Manager and see what you can and can't see.

I connected to the server from our main SQL server and am able to see the database and was even able to back it up. I'm extremely un-knowledgeable when it comes to SQL, so instructions for dummies could help me further. Do I want to repair the BES database or am I looking for something else? |

Are you running sqlbackupandftp from the SQL Server machine? It doesn't support remote backups at this time.

There you go, it will only work from the SQL Server machine. But it moves the files to somewhere else if you like, very neat

But the database resides on the BES server. There's no connection between it and our main SQL server. There's the instance of SQL running on the BES machine that's installed when you install BES. I only enlisted the help of the main SQL box (it's only for our accounting and CRM) to see if I could successfully connect to the BES database. I can't seem to find any SQL managers on the BES server, so that's why I did it.

In which case install the software on your BES and run it there.
You shouldn't need any SQL managers on the BES, all you need is the name of the SQL instance on your BES, in my case it is PC-NAME\SQLEXPRESS.
Supply it the credentials to login to the SQL and then connect. It will then list the databases it finds, BESMgmt being the one you are looking for. Tick the box and fill in any details on the RHS of the dialogue.

He was running it from the BES originally unfortunately, so it looks like you might be back to DB corruption dcomiskey, as Target said

Sorry dude, beyond my SQL server knowledge, time for the DBAs . Make sure you get a backup asap though, so at least you have your BES db intact if something goes wrong. OK so you don't need to use this app but it sounds like there might be issues needing a fix anyway.
