Psshhhhh -

What? You downloaded this from inside RIM?

My first attempt bombed out at about 85% (1 1/2 hours). I'm trying again. 47% so far and still 43 minutes estimated to go.

The new Enterprise Messaging client has not been released yet. RIM admits that SP6 was not supposed to be released yet, and the messaging client is soon to come.

Hello,

Your Service Request has been logged and the recommendation below has been provided to resolve your inquiry. If you have any questions concerning this request, please reply to this email within the next three (3) business days.

Details:
Questions regarding availability of new instant messaging client for BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.6.

Resolution:
Informed that due to a mistaken release of Service Pack 6 a new client is currently not available. The old client may work, but at the moment will be best effort support.
--------------

UNfortunately, the existing LCS messaging client will not work.

Here's a snippit from my logs:

Yep, maybe I just got lucky. Each page definitely loaded extremely slow and I was expecting it to take quite a few hours but as soon as I started the download it was up around 300k/sec. Logged out of the server, logged back in about 30 minutes later to check and to my surprise, it was done.

Are you KIDDING me!

How about device software 4.5? Where's that at?

I think you need it for the HTML messages. All I can find on BB downloads is 4.2.xx

OS 4.5 for the 8800 was released by some carriers already.
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-5-0-44-a.html

It's a pretty stable release.

I wouldn't plan on it anytime soon. SP6 wasn't even supposed to be out yet.

Um, no thanks.

Not to sound pompous, but our corporate messaging is too sensitive, to be installing software from 3rd party distributions.

What is a1.net? It may be legit, but it sure looks like an unofficial download center to me. Not even in English btw.

3rd Party? What are you talking about?
All handheld OS code is created by RIM. There's no third party involved here.

You can safely install any OS designed for your device, regardless of what carrier distributes it.
They're all in English... in addition to any other language paks in the distribution.

You don't sound pompous... you sound uninformed.

Hehe,

I meant it looks like 3rd party, referring to the site that was referenced.

For example, here's the top of the page -

Suche
Geben Sie Ihren Suchbegriff ein:
Suchergebnisse 1 - 5 von 10
1

Software downloaden

Durch eine Umstrukturierung werden die Software-Updates sowie Handbücher bei den einzelnen Produkten unter Support angezeigt: BlackBerry Geräte BlackBerry Server Software Microsoft ...

A1.net

I guess what I mean is, I don't speak German, so I can't validate that this is a legit site for distributing RIM device software.

Don't worry about it. It's valid.
Enjoy 4.5 on your device.

That will be fogotten by a few. THe new service books have to be sent after the upgrade to get enhanced html email IIRC and you have to enable it on the phone too.
