Default I am about to buy it, but...

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I am going to buy a 9630 tomorrow, and, since I don't qualify for a upgrade price, I'm to shell $600 for it....I have a 8830 now, and happy with it.

My question is, is it worth it???

What are the problems, what are the advantages????

Is it worth $600???

Thanks for the answers

Perhaps you could add a line to your account, might work out better for you.

I would say it's not worth the full price, at the moment. There are still little issues with the software, and the battery cover wobble is annoying, especially if you're coming from such a well put together device as the 8830. I would hold off and wait for some of the software issues to be addressed.

$600? No. Unless you really want the camera and other goodies. (Frankly I'd buy a real digital camera instead and have money left for a Garmin GPS.) I recently upgraded my 8830 to OS 4.5 and web browsing in particular was much improved.

Well, I'm about to do the same thing except I've got a Storm. Our house has three Storm's. Can you imagine?

I paid $500 for mine, plus a bit more for shipping and tax. There was no cheap way to get it so early into release, and I just HAD to have it! My 8330m was just fine, but the Bold-style keypad on the Tour is so much nicer and easier for me to type on, so upgrading made sense. Or at least I was able to convince myself of that!

If you have the money burning a hole in your pocket do it. Personally I think that's crazy to pay that amount for a phone but that's me.

DacyJ, I don't think it's helpful to call some people here, crazy. Rambo, I appreciate your sharing your experience and plan. I intend to use the same strategy.

I wasn't calling any member on here crazy, I was simply stating the thought of paying 5-600 bucks is crazy.

I did a 1 yr contract so this issue may not come up as often. $600 is great is you have the funds

better dropping 600 then being locked into any contract.

It's all relative. If you have the disposable cash and can easily afford it, go ahead. If you're having trouble paying your monthly housing payment, you might want to think twice.

I personally would not pay full retail for the Tour; I almost didn't get it at all. My Curve has been so great and the Tour advantages aren't worth full retail to me.

I've got both and I must say that the screen is an order of magnitude better. I've changed all the settings so the fonts are large enough for me, but I keep looking at that screen in amazement.

The second thing that's different is the size - it's more curve size. If you don't want to go any smaller than the 8830 then it will probably bother you - frankly I wish it were 8830 size as the keyboard just isn't as good as the Bold's. I think I'll get used to it though.

Finally, it's a real good upgrade in terms of speed - it's much faster than the 8830.

Whether or not these things are worth the $600 is up to you, but I'm happy with it and am looking to give my 8830 to a person in my church who wants to try the Blackberry.

Default No its not worth $600

I really like the 9630, but I can wait out the two years for the latest and greatest. It just makes the new toy that much sweeter.

And you all know that you'll be kicking your behinds if the Storm2 has a sliding keyboard and the kinks worked out.

Just offhand, why is paying $600 better than being locked into a contract? I don't like the contract myself, but reasoned that paying $200 + $175 ETF was cheaper than $600, so I went ahead.

I came from an 8830 and the keyboard and screen are definitely an order of magnitude better. The keyboard is backlit and easy to read, the senistivity appears greater so I don't have to push as hard. I type faster on it although I am inadvertantly making a lot of capital letters because I am not used to the light touch. No typos because I can't tell an M from an N in the dark though!

The screen is amazingly clear, bright, and readable. I can read my email outside in the sun which I couldn't do easily on the 8830. Inside it is just brilliant.

I think it's worth a $200 upgrade. Not sure I'd cough up $600 quite yet.

To my dismay, I just found out last night that I didn't have reception at the mall, whereas my 8830 always did, so I need to go troubleshoot that.

well you could call there customer service, maybe they will let you do a early upgrade but if not, you do have 30 days to return it, i upgraded to it and i love it, the full retail price is 489.99 thats allot of money, if i wasn't eligible for upgrade i would have waited for it. but it is a wonderful little device.

I went to a Sprint store yesterday to look at and feel the Tour. They didn't have one! I looked at the Pre and was impressed, didn't expect to be. Considered getting one for about 10 seconds, will wait to see a tour. I want a Tour but need to play with one first. But, when I inquired about buying a Pre and returning it within the trial period, I was told there is a $35 restocking fee.

DacyJ is right - it's kind of crazy to pay $500 or more for a new BB, especially when your current one is working properly. In my case, my "consumer whore" nature overrode good judgement. But as long as you choose to be crazy, are you really crazy?

Unless you're coming from the torture of a Storm, which his profile seems to indicate...

True that. I tried a Storm for a week, and rather than grow to like it, or even get used to some of the oddities, I only grew to hate it even more. I didn't find things to like - I found things to detest! Anyone who loves their Storm, God bless you! It's just not for me.
