Default Blackberry 7750

I like this Blackbery a lot, but does anyone else think that it's somewhat slow? Trying to use some third party application is painful at times?

By the way, this is a great site. I hope more and more people show up. I think that the Blackberry software market is about to explode.

It's a common problem with all the CDMA Blackberry devices. Has to do with the CDMA chip set in the CDMA Blackberry devices.

I bought a 7750 from Verizon a few weeks ago and returned it three days later. I then got a 7780 with AT&T. Comparing the two units (the difference being that the 7750 using CDMA and the 7780 uses GSM/GPRS - and the 7750 has two megs less RAM than the 7780!) it's apparent to me that it's not just a question of the 7750 being slow, there's something wrong with the internal design - it's not just slow, it's excruciatingly slow. I'm surprised that they are still selling the 7750 unit, it should probably be withdrawn.

I don't see how the new version 4.0 operating system, which is due for release soon (or at least public beta) can be usable in the 7750, since it will cause apps to run even slower.

I've got the 7730 version with Tmobile and no complaints whatsoever with speed!

The 7750 doesn't have 2MB less RAM but 2 MB less flash. Reason being is it is needed for the Qualcomms CDMA Radio portion of the OS. With regards to network speed, it shouldn't be slower, but actually faster than GPRS technology, its a matter of the carrier upgrading their hardware.

RAM/Flash point taken. I can tell you after having used both the 7750 on a CDMA network and the 7780 on GPRS that although the 7750 should be noticeably a bit faster with data downloads, it wasn't apparent. I attribute this to the overall operational sluggishness of the 7750.

There is actually the same amount of memory in both 7750 and 7780. Apparently, the 7750 memory is used up by more bloaty CDMA software. CDMA requires a lot more processing than GSM, while CDMA is excellent for many things, processing overhead and battery life is not an advantage of CDMA -- you really need a faster CPU to handle the rigors of CDMA.

Given a fast enough CPU processor, CDMA is faster than GSM. But with an underpowered processor, GSM is faster than CDMA. The 7750/7780 processor is somewhat underpowered for good CDMA performance.
