Default Dumped the 700W for 8700c, good move??

Please Login to Remove!

I have been a loyal verizon customer for years and have had many of their 'smartphones" and one blackberry, 7130. I have been using the Treo 700W since it's release and have been less than thrilled like most users i have come across. Since Verizon's coverage is stellar in my area i have to keep them foe at least voice. I umped the TREo and just picked up an 8700c and think it's great but my question to those more experienced with the edge network, is it faster than EVDO??? thanks for your help...

If you do a search there is a ton of answers on that very question as it has been asked many times.

Good for you! Not that I hate Treos or their users, but the Treo is an inferior product paraded as superior.....it reboots constantly...screen sucks...keyboard sucks....I can go on if needed....

No,

EDGE is not faster than EVDO
It's about 10x slower.

EVDO = 400-600k d/l and 40-60k u/l

Well, actually there was a debate on here once about which was faster.

Wirelessly posted (8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I debated this pre 8700 release. Since the do the search messgae has been delivered let me suggest this: for web browsing no significant difference, but tethered as a modem EVDO is much faster.

Default Stinsonddog, great tips link

Your link to the 8700c shortcuts and tips was outstanding, great piece of info, that all of us can benefit from, especially those new to the 8700 and bb's themselves.

Thanks again Larry. BTW, how many cases do you now have (including the ones you have on order)?

Default uhhhh!

you could of bought a spare 8700 with the amount you paid on cases... lol

I did order the skin for my new 8700 but will most likely not install it. I am just too lazy. and I really don't care that much really. I get a new device every 6 months anyways...
I am used to buying every single accessory for new gadgets. but never use any of them.

I'm coming from Spring EV-DO on a Samsung a900 I set up in December to an 8700c on Cingular/at&t and EDGE feels just as fast as EV-DO on the BlackBerry.
