Default Can BBM be removed?

Please Login to Remove!

BBM 6.1.0.71 is installed on my phone and it's always running. It's blocked for intercompany use by the IT policy and I never use it anyway. I'd like to remove it.

If I look in My World using App World on my phone, it shows up as installed and with no delete option.

If I look in My World using the App World Webstore, it shows up as uninstalled. (I find the webstore to be very unreliable.)

According to the Desktop Software, it shows up as installed, but with a remove option. I tried to remove it using the Desktop Software, but I found that the previous version was installed and it had no delete option.

There is a delete option in Options Device Application Management. That resulted in the same as the Desktop Software.

Is this typical? Is there a way to completely remove BBM?

Yes, there is! Upgrade it through App world and then you can delete it. You can do this from the home screen by hitting the delete option from the menu key.

It will come back in the OS next update you perform, so you'd have to repeat this procedure again...

Or use Desktop Manager and remove it from the Application Loader.

Unless you upgrade from the App World, you can't remove the application - and I don't think it can be done in any case from the DM.

Otherwise, you can shrink it out with BB Boss. This will require the OS to be reloaded.

My World in App World on the phone showed BBM 6.1.0.71 as installed, but with no delete option.

My World in the App World webstore showed BBM 6.1.0.71 as uninstalled. I reinstalled it and then it showed BBM 6.1.0.71 as installed, but with no delete option.

DM showed BBM 6.1.0.71 as installed, with a delete option.

Options Device Application Management showed BBM 6.1.0.71 as installed, with a delete option.

App World either on the phone or webstore would not let me delete BBM so I had two choices, either DM or Application Management. I chose DM. I could see BBM was being removed and when it was complete, the phone rebooted. After I refreshed the list of apps in App World on the phone, there was no BBM, either on the phone or in the webstore. However, now DM shows BBM 6.1.0.55 as required and there is a pending install waiting for me to confirm. Is there a way to delete the pending installation?

The phone is working just fine without BBM installed and running constantly even though I never use it. If there is one thing that really winds me up, it's operating system developers, computer manufactures, phone manufacturers and telephone service providers ramming bloatware down my throat. I wish someone would write an app that that would remove unwanted garbage and automatically delete unwanted garbage and service books. I would pay for an app that did this.

To RIM, I don't use BBM and I couldn't use it even if I wanted to because you gave BES administrators the power to prevent me from using it, so why are you preventing me from removing an app that is the very definition of useless and unwanted?????

Option 1: Shrink it out. Reload the OS. Move on.
Option 2: Ignore that it is on the device. Move on.

I looked into BB BOSS and it appears to no longer be maintained. I looked into BBH-Plus which is current so I downloaded it. The Shrink-A-OS screen seems to be hard coded to show a lot of items that can be removed, but there doesn't seem to be a way to find out which items are there in the first place, particularly a lot of applications I've never heard of. Does anyone know how to find out which items are in the OS before shrinking?

Also, I was thinking of starting from 7.1.0.284 since it's newer, but released. Are there any reasons to start from 7.1.0.267 instead?

I downgraded from 342 to 284, due to a V/R issue over Bluetooth. 284 is stable and runs as well as a BB OS should, IMO. I ran 267 prior, but upgraded to 284 leaked when it came out. I have no issues with it to speak of. You should see any not either.

I used BBH-Plus to shrink 7.1.0.284. I really gutted it, which was gratifying. I started DM, which detected the new OS right away, so I used it for the installation. The actual OS upgrade didn't take very long, although the enterprise activation did take quite a while. I noticed the usual garbage that Bell pushes out in service books, but there is no BBM. The process was a piece of cake!

Thanks for the help.
