Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. This is good info to know. I am running .160 and BBM 5.0 is working for me thus far.

I am having problems with it as well, i'm about to downgrade because messages aren't being received. I have tried all solutions on several forums and still no results.

I'm getting severe lag. Both outgoing messages are taking a long time being delivered even though the icon shows it has been sent to the network. And the delivery (D) and read (R) notifies are taking a long time to come back.

I downgraded BBM back to what comes with 4.5.0.131.

I hear ya on this one!

BBM did that to me as well, and the screen just got stuck there! when i did cancel, all my contacts got wiped, but i loaded the old backup file i had, which, for some reason made me lose about 75 of my contacts, and it started lagging really badly.

I took js's advice, made a backup, deleted 5.0 from the app list. after which i downgraded from 4.6.0.282 to 4.6.0.247 and loaded BBM 4.6, and restored my contacts with the same backup file i had and now it's working fine. although for some reason, i cant upgrade back to .282 :S

I had the same problem, at first I updated with OTA and there was a download error, next I see my BB freeze and removed the battery. Then no BBM icon!
Then I reinstalled the OS (hate to have corrupt files) with old BBM and restored a backup file with all my BB contacts. Everything fine, but I really wanted the BBM 5.0, so I manually installed BBM 5.0 but had just 7 contacts instead of the 250+ I used to have. I tried to restore the file with BB contacts, but my BB just freezes and always appear after a long time with those 7 contacts.

My girlfriend came to me and I installed manually the new BBM with an OS update (she had 4.5.0.124 and went into 4.5.0.153) and lost not even one of her contacts... well she has just 30 or less.

I just resigned to lose the contacts and add them up, cause I'm excited to use this program. Guess it has to do something with having so much contacts. Anyone who can prove this wrong would be really helpful...

It was a general backup that i had made. which was a blessing! i restored all my contacts, thanks to this. but i had to downgrade to OS 4.6.0.247. Small price to pay for getting my BBM back!

I had about 110+ and i landed up with only 20 by the end of it all. what was worse was when i got the new bbm set up, this screen came up (it's been mentioned before by juwaack), sayin it was switching my email account to the one associated with my BBM (which made no sense, it was switching to my WORK email!), and the screen froze, and once i hit 'cancel', it wiped even the contacts i already had!! so i had to REload the backup which i though had all my contacts, but noooo it loaded those 20 only!

Downgrading and reloading BBM 4.6 and then restoring the phone made me get back all my contacts. weird. yes. i'll stick with the old BBM, till it's officially released. the lags of delivery are also annoying!

Hi guys... Some on on my bbm list cant view her avatar. We tried changing pics, we linked her bbm with her phone contact.. we rebooted a few times but nothing. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Thanx

It's a RIM issue.

Found out the workaround... it's a hassle but hey it's a beta version. Delete the contact and add it again.

The lag came back plus it wouldn't send out when I was connected to WiFi. Reverted to the old version.

Wirelessly posted (Bold)

Here's my expierence. I found BBM5 by accident really, just surfing the web. Came across a download link. I think it was Berryreview.com but not sure; maybe I was linked to there or from there to another site...it was late at night. Downloaded zip file, extracted, opened the BBM5 Java folder copied files. Opened the 4.6.282 Java folder, pasted files. It asked to overite I said yes to all. Ran apploader installed BBM5. It worked well from the start, it showed up in application list as BBM5.0 no problems. But no avatars and no RIM emails. So I thought maybe a bad file somewhere in Java and deleted BBM. I reinstalled BBM5 via OTA from link in this sticky. BBM was downloaded but no longer showed in my application list, contacts missing. So plugged into my PC ran the apploader, it loaded the BBM5 that I copied/pasted from zip download. Apploader installed BBM5 and Core Applications this time. I imediately received RIM emails, sync'd emails on Bold, received avatars, everything is working great. Don't know if each download method filled any gaps within the files, but it works.
