Blah, just loaded it up on my device, no builtin rigtones appeared!! I just did a jl cmder wipe and reloaded... now waiting for the hourglass to finish "its thing."

Hopefully the upgrade from .51 to .77 was just flakey.

From what I hear, RIM didn't include the preloaded ringtones with this update...similar to how they didn't include the preloaded pics in .51

I just found the version for the 8330 ... Downloading now ... .66 has been perfect for me so far, can't imagine them making it even better.

You can supposedly upload the .cod file with javaloader to your phone, but I haven't tried this yet...

I found the following code in the Blackberry.alx file. It says 8703 and 8830 shouldn't get the ringtones but yet the file has 8830 in the file name. However, the .cod file it refers to is NOT in the the 8830 OS in .77.

Code:
<!-- 8703 and 8830 should not receive these ring tones -->
		<!-- Ring tones for the 8830 -->
		<fileset Sound="Tunes7130c" series="8800" radio="CDMA-GPRS">
			<files>
			        net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod
			</files>
		</fileset>

Wonder if I will run into this problem on the 8330?

Good News. So, I took the net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod from a .51 install, renamed it to net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod and used jl_cmder to load it to my blackberry.

Success! I have all the pre-loaded ringtones.

Note: this procedure should be familiar to some, but the steps above are really abbreviated. It's getting really late and I don't feel like typing up full instructions now, but I'm letting people know it is possible to get your ringtones back.

note: the procedure will only work if you rename the net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod to net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod

If you don't rename that file, it wont work.

I am installing .77 right now. Not worried about the ringtone thing, I don't use mine as a phone at all.

i tried floz23's procedure and for some reason, even though i renamed it on my computer, once the file gets to the blackberry it is once again listed as net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod and the ringtones are not present in the list of choices. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

On another note, anyone have the mp3s of the standard blackberry ringers so i can just load them on the media card and not worry about this?

Yep, did the same thing and could see it copying it over, but using the original name of the file.

Worse is that vibrate doesn't work either, so I can't tell if I am getting anything.

after loading 4.5.0.77 and not being able to get into any of my profiles, i was able to rename and then reload a copy of net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod from my 4.5.0.55 install (from my hard drive) via device manager.

i am now able to access my profile details and change tones/vibrate/etc for each item...

good luck!

I was wondering if someone could help me out by explaining just how to do the whole file renaming thing from 4.5.0.55 to 4.5.0.77. I'm kinda new to this and dont really understand how to do it.

I can try, it might take a ton of help unless you know your way around the blackberry at least a bit. Let me try just slightly more than in the thread and tell me if this helps.

You need to go to your previous OS folder on your computer, "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files" is where your old OS and new one should be. Go into the old OS folder, then go to the java folder and find the file net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod. Now copy this file into your jl_cmdr folder. Then right click this file, and rename it to net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod. Now use the command line option in jl_cmdr to load this file onto your blackberry. Once you do this, a battery pull should restore all your tones. Let me know if any of this is not clear for you and ill try to give more details.
