8830 connection issue w/ professional software

Hello, we are in the process of upgrading client blackberry's to the Sprint 8830 model. Unfortunately, we are not able to connect them directly to the server, which is running the Blackberry Professional software. We just recently installed the Professional software, we were previously running BES. Even when running BES we were not able to connect the new 8830 directly to the server with a cable and get it to recognize them. The server gives an error message that it cannot recognize the device. We have no problem connecting the old 7520 devices directly via the cable.
What needs to be done to allow the 8830 to be connected directly to the server running Blackberry Professional? Thanks.
