Default updating reinstalling firmware...which one?

Please Login to Remove!

Quick question, my BOLD has a swisscom logo when I turn it on, it was meant to run on swisscom. However, I am running it on Orange CH with no problems except one, which i have another thread on (no maps).

I want to reinstall the firmware - should i do the one from swisscom? or the orange specified one? If i do the orange would there be any issues?

Thanks.

.162 linked below (and at the very top of this 9000 Bold section) seems to be the best (and latest) release yet. If you follow the instructions, you will upgrade fine.

Oh, so its not vendor specific? If i use a "Rogers" firmware, I wont have issues with using it on ORANGE CH?

If you want to get rid of the swisscom logo on start up, you can't. That is built in to the device itself. Nothing that I know of will change it. Also, why risk the chance of bricking a brand new device with a minor upgrade? Can't see the value in taking such a risk myself.

Follow the instructions to update to .162 and you'll be perfectly fine. I've upgraded several 9000s to .162 with no complications.

I don't think you should be concerned about bricking the phone with an upgrade. I got my phone with Rogers pre-installations and the OS of 4.60.125. With the advice of the postings on OS upgrades on the sticky threads in this forum, I upgraded not once but twice - first to 4.6.0.147 and then to 4.6.0.162. Both are official releases by RIM that have been certified by a number of carriers (4.6.0.162 has been certified by carriers in Hong Kong as well as Rogers, etc.) Both times, the upgrades went really smoothly for me, no probs at all - and I am not a tech geek at all! And I don't agree with the previous post that said it was only a minor upgrade - for me, I've seen a HUGE improvement in my battery life which was initially a big problem for me, plus my BB is now running apps much faster. So I think you should consider making the upgrade. Lots of posters on these fora have already done so and I think everyone is really happy - just read some of the other threads and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks a lot all of you!

I think ill go ahead with it. I just wanted to make sure it has nothing to do with carrier specifications and etc.

Once again everyone on this place is really great and down to earth!

The risk of bricking it is minuscule, and it can be recovered nevertheless.

I don't know why DubDub stated that , but just like some people still prefer to use candles rather than electric lights... there are a few that refuse to upgrade until their own carrier releases the OS. It doesn't matter.

Go for it, there are hundreds here to support you should you need the help.

Well i installed the OS without any glitches (i just lost my open convos in BBM but i guess thats normal).

There is a new folder that was automatically created called (instant messaging) and my instant messaging programs were automatically put into there...

My memory increased from 22mb to 33.x

However, i still do not have blackberry maps, even sent the service books again...its in the applications list...but no where to be seen on the phone
