Unless something has changed with the 8707 that isn't reflected in those stats, you're just going to get gprs (not even edge) while in the US.

Cool

yeah i wondered about that .... there's no mention of EDGE .... just 3G and GPRS .....hmmm , good point . better stick with my 8700c and maybe give the 8300 a try .... i'm just old school Blackberry and i'm not too sure how that trackball would feel versus the good ole trusty wheel ....

It does not seem the 3G is based on US band. It is Japan version of 3G and that is the reason user can roam in Japn.

blackberry.net provides a nice comparisson feature. Essentially its:
8700x = EDGE, GPRS, GSM
8703e = EVDO, CDMA
8707x = UMTS, GPRS, GSM

8707v with 3 G card will work in Japan for phone and email. you can load japanese font sets to read mails by installing various multilanguage firmware versions on your blackberry. You can also use namimail to allow sending of jap mails but then firmware needs to be 4.1 (do not use 4.2 as namimail not working with 4.2 yet) and also Namimail must have english os for it to work.

Recommend you use Hong Kong operating system as it has english language. May need to set TLS to handheld rather than proxy and make sure have internet access and can access namikiteru website. Also reset firewall.

NB Added November7th 2007:

We have Namimail 2.2.1 working on 4.2. operating system on 8707v and 8800 now. Found best OS for a European User for Vodafone is from UK with East Asian package.

8707 uses WCDMA2100 which is not compatible with any US network. Hence the reason for GPRS only.

This is tailored towards Japanese working in US - their way of avoiding roaming charges. 8707g does not have the US 3G bands and thus GPRS only.

My 8707V works in Japan and Europe for phone and corporate email and I believe in USA also as people with them have never complained after trips there.
