Default Pearl & Curve

Please Login to Remove!

So the differences I can list are:

Curve:
1. the screen is dimmer, at 100% as well.
2. Memory Free: 12913487 Bytes
3. File Total: 55443456 Bytes
4. reminds me of a palm treo in a way.
5. Too many Apps installed for AT&T (shop multimedia, shop graphics, shop themes, shop ringtones, shop music, shop everything it seems).
6. trackball is harder to push
7. when I'm trying to get to an application, trackball will either not work, or it seriously lags and when I go to click on the application, it comes up with the wrong one because of the lagging
8. no cell phone charm loop area
9. Camera only stores 28 pictures
10. keypad lighting is horrible
11. screen is sort of blurry
12. freezes constantly because of the lagging

and only apps I have installed was OperaMini
I uploaded my own ringtone
I uploaded my own background
and the memory is horrible anyways.

I did all of the battery pull tricks, I charged it to 100% and everything

-----------------------------------------
Pearl:
1. screen is much brighter
2. Memory Free: 13319416 bytes
3. File Total: 65142784 bytes
4. it is smaller - targets the younger market definitely
5. not as many applications pre-installed on here that AT&T puts on there
6. trackball has the advantage of color - & its much easier to push and move
7. there are no lagging issues, its easy to get to the program I need
8. cell phone charm loop area
9. 200+ pictures are able to be stored for the camera
10. keypad backlight is brighter
11. screen seems to be alot clearer as well
12. freezes maybe once a month if not 0 times

and I have the installed apps:
Yahoo! Go
Opera Mini
plus I have several pics I installed and three ringtones I made.

I think I am going to return the curve tomorrow. $300 something total before the rebate but I'm not impressed by the performance of the Curve compared to the Pearl. I like the way the Curve looks. But maybe its too new to be out in the market.

Yea...but they have different operator software load and thus slightly different user experience on the device.

Even though I don't have a Curve, right away, I know you made a mistake on how many pictures it can take. It sounds to me that you forgot save the pictures on the MicroSD and not on the phone itself. That number sounds about right if you save it on the phone memory itself.

Try again and I think you will be surprise that you can save more pictures now.

As for the Pearl freezing, it happens on the older OS for the phone but on the newer OS, it doesn't freeze anymore. Since I always reset my phone once every 2 or 3 days (removing the battery and put it back in again), I never notice it at all.

Default hmm...

Hmm, I wonder if its because of the OS. New device, not sure how much hardware is copied from older diveces. So, maybe freezing due to a early OS like the pear did. Had the opportunity a day or 2 ago to actually compare a coworkers 8300 with my pearl and didnt notice a difference in screen quality, but than again I wasnt looking for it.

Correction, compared the 8830 (Verizons model?) Not the 8300, but think hardware is same, sure look the same.

Some of these issues,
(I had some)are most likely because of the phone being only 5 days old to the US market! As for the brightness, it does seen a little yellow and washed out compared to either the 8800 or 8100, and the keyboard brightness could have definitely been whiter and brighter(A LA-Treo600) But that could probably be upped with a software update by RIM. The lag went away on mine, but the camera is still late to the dance after taking a picture, takes forever to load the picture. Like I said such a new device, bring it back and try another one! Make sure it's from the newest shipment delivered to the store. Crap Shoot with RIM these days, and getting an on the money device seems to be shear luck. But gems are out there, remember ya got 30 days, use em!

My friend came over with his Pearl today and we compared it side by side with my Curve. Neither of us noticed any more lag on the Curve, and mine hasn't had any problems with randomly shutting down.

I know it sucks to have bought a Pearl or 8800 recently, only to have the Curve drop it's hammer on you after day 31 of your purchase, but to spread FUD on the 8300 is just not a good thing to do. There are plenty of people here on the board who have found the problems you have mentioned and suggested fixes for them (which work, BTW if you RTFM - like with the free memory issue)... just be happy with the blackberry you have and enjoy!

Personally, I've had a Pearl for 6 months, an 8800 for two, and now a Curve for a couple of days, and I can say that for me, unequivocally, the Curve fits my lifestyle like a glove. I even found a new use for it yesterday - plugging my cassette adapter in my car *directly* into the curve, and jamming to tunes like a champ. Before yesterday, I NEVER considered using my phone as an MP3 player... but it works so well, I'm thrilled...

Curve:
1. the screen is dimmer, at 100% as well. Not from what I've seen with my Curve versus the Pearl

Agreed
6. trackball is harder to push - I don't see a problem like this at all

7. when I'm trying to get to an application, trackball will either not work, or it seriously lags and when I go to click on the application, it comes up with the wrong one because of the lagging. -This is happening because of the new OS, and works itself out after a few days supposedly.
8. no cell phone charm loop area- who cares?
9. Camera only stores 28 pictures - untrue
10. keypad lighting is horrible- No problem for me.
11. screen is sort of blurry- completely untrue.
12. freezes constantly because of the lagging - again OS issue from #7

13. Better camera on the Curve.
14. A2DP on the Curve
15. Full Qwerty keyboard with spell checker on the curve.
16. ATT Music/Xm Radio on the Curve
17. 3.5 sized headset jack on the curve
18. Larger screen on the curve
19. Better Media Player on the curve
20. Better call quality on the curve

I'm guessing he forgot to list the differences #13 to 19.

Glad you guys like the Curve.

For me, size (or lack of) matters, so the Pearl is the best for me.

I've got 2 cellphones to carry around so I like having a smaller phone.
