Default no support from RIM on Blackberry 8800

Please Login to Remove!

I recently bought an unlocked 8800 that was set-up on the Cingular network. Within 30 days the device charging/transfer mechanism has become loose and stopped working.

I talked to RIM and Cingular will not cover the warranty cause its unlocked and thus effectively has voided the warranty with Cingular. They will replace for a fee of $299 USD.

RIM will exchange/replace the device for a cheaper fee than Cingular, however, they will take 5-7 business days. The other problem is that they will set-it to factory defaults for Cingular and the device will be locked.

Does this make sense? There is a manufacturing defect that RIM is not willing to acknowledge that is the problem not the unlocking of the device.

What can be done???? Please help.

Where did you buy it from, is it Cingular Branded and what did you tell Cingular? Yes, they will not send you an unlocked one you should have kept it quite and not told them about it and got it a replacement and then later call them to give you the unlock code for it and even if you have to get it unlocked it would be $30 and better than having to pay that much. If i was you I would call warantee exchange (that is if it is Cingular Branded) and try to get a replacemtn and do not say any thing about it being unlocked.

That's the problem with getting a device from one carrier and unlocking it for use on another...... Sorry to hear of your issue though....

Cingular would not give them an unlock code in any of the above scenarios if he's not a customer. Period.

If you get a locked one, you can pay to have it unlocked. It's pretty reasonably priced.

Since you're not their customer, I don't imagine you're going to get very far arguing with Cingular.

I have to appologize. I forgot about the new format and that teh provider is now mandetory and is listed. I would agree that yes this is a definate issue and I would also take the cheaper way out and then get it unlocked.
