HTTP image POST

I am attempting to send an image through a POST http connection.
The image is a BMP file. I convert the BMP into a byte [] and throw it into the OutputStream with the write method. I have successfully sent a couple images, but only when the images are extremely small. (Roughly 44x44 pixels).
However, when I increase the size of the file to just 45x45 pixels, it will time out on the flush() method.
The strange part is when I send the 44x44 size file it sends almost instantly, but increasing it to 45x45, it will time out. So I don't think the timeout is due to a large file size. Otherwise I'm sure as the file size increased, the transfer would progressively get slower and slower. But on all image sizes not exceeding 44x44 they transfer instantly.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I've also tested this on and off a BES server, and ended with the same result.
Thank you in advance for the help!
