Default 4.5.0.37 and memory cleaner

Please Login to Remove!

I'm using 4.5.0.37 onmy 8310

Now it supports Memory Cleaning Options without the need to enable Content Protection

My phone hangs after a few moment each time I activate the Memory Cleaner, but if I activate the memory cleaner without cleaning interval (clean on idle), my phone just doing fine

Anyone got the same experience ??

And one more thing, I enable and set memory cleaner to show icon on the home screen, but each time I rebooted my device, the memory cleaner icon disappear, and the memory cleaner options is back to disabled, but my other option (no clean on idle and holster) is still kept on my last configuration

Does is supposed to do that ?

Btw, in my opinion, memory leak is no longer an issue on 4.5.0.37, I think it's even better than 4.2 IMHO

Memory Cleaner is not what you think. It doesn't free up memory. It only "scrubs" what free memory you already have instead of just making it availble for write-over again.

When something is "deleted" it's not really deleted. The OS just marks it as available to write over again but the data is still there. The Memory Cleaner actually scrubs the old data so that it can't be recovered by removing the memory from the device and reading it by other methods. It's a security measure, not a memory freeing application.

Again, it does nothing for you unless you are worried about someone disassembling your BB, removing the memory and reading it using other methods. It gives you no extra free memory.

I have checked everytime I run it, and it almost always increases my free memory.

Did it on my 8310 2 times, 5 days ago and now. The first time there was some memory free but nothing happened, with memory, the second time.

A simple search of the Blackberry.com site got me this result. It does both. However, the caches it cleans are normally not that large so usually not much is gained.

Hmmm ... I haven't done it in a few days ... Let's see When I go to options/staus I have 36166756 Bytes Free.

==Memory Cleaner==

36232916 Bytes Free

It's been about two days since my last memory clean, I haven't installed or uninstalled any apps. This is on a Verizon Blackberry Curve with OS v4.3.0.127

By the way, you have to re-enable Memory Cleaner after a Hard Reset.

Has the memory cleaner "bug" (needing to be re-enabled after every hard reset) been fixed in a subsequent version?

It hasn't been corrected in .44.

No one gets more memory. Memory Cleaner overwrites empty memory; it does not free up memory.
