Default Any reason for 8310 over 8300?

Please Login to Remove!

Probably a relatively dumb question, but would there be any reason to purchase an 8310 over a 8300 other than the GPS, (which I have zero intention of using) and the color? All else being equal, are they identical phones?

I only ask because I just got my 8300 a week or so ago and could technically still swap it for an 8310 from AT&T. My brother just today went in to get a 8300 and walked out with an 8310. (he simply asked for a Curve) Perhaps they phased out the 8300 already?

That's it, just curious if it's worth my time or not.

Thanks all.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

They are pretty much the same device other than color and GPS

Yes the 8300 is going the way of the DoDo bird

"Pretty much the same device" or THE SAME device aside from color and GPS?

You know how having the outdated model feels, so if there's even an inkling of a legitimate reason to make the swap I'd do it. But GPS and color aren't worth the hassle for me.

if it isn't worth the hassle alone, take it back and exchange it for the 8310, then i will swap with you AND give you $100... i would use the gps for sure! i will even give you my bluetooth puck with mine..

I have the BB Curve 8320 for TMO and I think its worth it to get the WiFi then the GPS. I was in Canada and I did not have any data service since my service is in the US. I just connected to the WiFi at the hotel and was able to pull my email.

I also have a bluetooth GPS unit that I use with mapping software. The problem once you use a real GPS link TomTom, mapping with the BB is just too basic. Its nice for quick trips but given the small screen it just too difficult. It might be nice for GeoCaching but I have not found a program for it.

With that said with the 8320 I can do both WiFi and GPS so I think its a better device.

My two cents.

I bought the 8300 on Sat and just exchanged (no charge) for the 8310 yesterday. Even if you think you're not going to use it, it is still worth free.

I can zoom into my house in gmaps and watch myself walk through it. Pretty cool.

I looked up the townhall nearest my location in berry411 using gps and it gives directions from wherever you happen to be standing.

Too cool to pass up imo.

Is there a fee involved for utilizing the GPS service?

I really wish they brought the 8320 instead to AT&T as I'm sure the majority of the people would prefer wifi over GPS.

So far I'm leaning towards just keeping my 8300.

GPS is free to use, there is not subscription cost.

Hmmm, ok. I was under the impression there was a fee for the GPS. Well I'll try out my brothers this weekend to see what it's all about and go from there.

I hope the main difference is the 8310 model does not get dust under the screen!

There is a fee to use AT&T's TeleNav GPS service, but you can use the GPS with Google Maps and the like for free.

That right there would be "worth it" enough for me! I actually use Google Maps all the time but I always have to change the settings to reflect my current location and it is a slight PITA. Having GPS with Google Maps and Berry 411 would be really nice! And it's not like they're charging extra for GPS, so you may as well have it.

But don't get me wrong, I still LOVE my T-Mo 8320, even without the really cool GPS...

Why you are worry over 8300 and 8310?? you know what? GPS is fully capable on 8300 with TeleNav GPS Receiver. 8310 has a GPS built in itself. they are no different..

I definitely am happy with 8320.. Wouldn't trade it.. in events I might add teleNav gps on my curve with TeleNav GPS Receiver on later.

Blackberry, yahoo!, Win Live Map are free to use, there is none fee, ;)

Post #13 (PCgirl aka BBgirl..giggle), Me too, I always use BB Maps whole times. when necessary. anyway Google map running some bugs/ glitches on device that what I noticed. Google need fix it before i reintall it on.

LOL! That's so funny. When I first joined BBF I think I actually tried to sign up with "BBgirl" but it was taken! So, since I was really into looking for a BB that would be like a pocket PC, I chose PCgirl. But I guess now the PC could be for "Pearl & Curve". Yeah, that works for me.

I don't really travel a lot so I don't need the gps at all. I'm happy with my wifi curve.

Does the GPS and wifi impact battery life? It would seem to me that it has to but maybe there's something I don't know. I would never use my phone for either anyway but if it didn't impact battery life why not have it? I don't intend on trading up until they have 3g on a bb. That would warrant an upgrade.

So does that mean google maps or maybe some other programs utilize the gps without having to pay a subscription? I just don't think I would use it enough to justify $10 a month, but for free, now thats another subject. Do these other programs have the verbal turn by turn or just video? Thanks for your help.
