Default Help: Trackwheel repair

Please Login to Remove!

My trackwheel won't click anymore. It won't spring back into place.

I can use the trackwheel to do it's normal functions, but it just doesn't "click" anymore. It's more like I "mush" it. I don't know how long I havev until I can't do that anymore.

Is this something I can fix myself?

If not, who can fix it?

Any rough estimates on cost?

Thanks

If the unit is under warranty - Free. Your carrier probably has a repair channel to take care of it.

I bought it as a "retired" unit from my company. I'm not sure about the warranty. If it's under warranty, then great. I'll send it back under the warranty. But, what are my options if it is not under warranty?

FYI:

I called AT&T and gave them the "original" account number and executed a warranty.

RIM also has a "out of warranty" program to handle...well...out of warranty stuff like user damage (broken screens, water damage) or if the device has been activated for over a year.

RIM has a pricelist for various out of warranty repair services.

I just developed the same problem with mine, except now it also sticks after a few rolls going up, and reboots sometimes when moving it

This happened to me a few weeks ago where the wheel does not click. It is anoying more then anything. Turns out my warranty expired over the weekend.

Has anyone replaced a wheel ... is there a spring that gets worn out or is the wheel itself that has to be replaced?

My track wheel can only scroll, and it can't click at all whatsoever. I can't send messages at all. Is there any way i could "Macgyver" it to work without buying a new 40 dollar trackwheel?

If you call TMobile, they will probably ship you a replacement (might be a refurb) and have you ship the old one back.

Default Replaced mine twice

I fortunately work for a company that every body loves blackberry, and had a few old ones around. I have taken apart and re-soldered a track wheel back on mine. Not too much hassle if you have a soldering iron, and a little patience.
