Remove custom ring tone from a contact in address book??

Ok so I thought I had found the solution to this and didn't. Here's the issue:

I created a contact alert on my 8320 for Important contacts - added some select members from my address book to the list and set up the phone/message alerts for that. Now on my 9700 I've gotten rid of a batch of ringtones and also no longer need that contact alert group.

I didn't even remember I had created the group - and when members in that group call I am getting the default "T-Jingle" tmob ringtone. I finally found the contact alert group and deleted it (unable to delete the custom ringtone in address book). I thought this would get rid of the custom ringtone setting for those contacts - it didn't.

I pulled batt. Nada. And actually (as I was typing this I decided to check) I just realized that apparently the batt pull caused the contact alert group to restore itself (although I literally just deleted it!!)

Going nuts here - someone help please - or is this a bug?
