Default Software Configuration

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I am trying to create my first software configuration and have a few questions.

The app I am testing with is Opera Mini. I created a directory called Opera Mini under Shared\Applications and copied the alx and cod files there. I ran the loader application and it created .xml and .pkg files. I then creted an applciation policy. So far so good.

Now when I bring up the Software Config screen, I see something called Application Software with a plus next to it. If I expand the plus, I do not see anything else. Shouldnt I see Opera Mini? Any idea where I went wrong?

Thanks

Incidently, when I set the Device Software location from the Device Software Configuration screens, it would not recognize the directory/server I was trying to set. Finally, I put in the IP of the server instead of the server
name, and then it took. Not really sure why.

Have you shared Research in Motion folder under Common folder?

Yes, the rim folder is shared. I also shared the applications folder and the Opera Mini folder.

I added a screenshot of the sw config screen and the file directory.

Bump.

Anything else you can think of to try? Any idea of another quick app I could try to build a config for?

Have you tried reindexing the folder using the 'loader.exe /index' command from the Apploader directory?

Tried loader.exe /index also tried loader.exe /reindex

Like before, it created .xml and .pkg files in the Opera directory. But there is no folder for it under the Loader Files directory (there is one for the 8830), not sure if it needs to create one there or not.

Should I give up? The loader seems fine. What other files should I look for?

All that looks good. I am at a loss as to what this could be. What is your BES version?

Not sure what the issue is but these are the steps I take to create a software configuration....

1. On one of my BES servers (for this example, I will use server1), I have the "C:\Program Files\Common FIles\Research In Motion" folder shares as RIM.
2. I create a folder inside the "C:\Program Files\Common FIles\Research In Motion\Shared\Applications" folder noted above called "application1" for example. Copy the application files into it (*.alx & *.cod) etc.
3. I then run (on that server) loader.exe /index
4. The I go to Blackberry Manager and with the Blackberry Domain highlited, I go to the software configurations tab.
5. Give it a configuration name, description, and for the location, I put in \\server1\RIM. As soon as I do that, it shows the indexed software ready for me.

I just did this with the OperaMini software (that I just downloaded) and it worked without issue.

Im running BES 4.1.5.24 in an Exchange environment with 900 users on 2 BES servers.

Let me know if this helps....

The only thing that I have somewhat different is that my bes software is located on the D drive with the logs and such, but the common files ect. is on the C drive.

That should not matter since it sees it as a share. Can you get to the share from another PC?

Same here. BES is on D:/, but your Applications directory should be something like this...
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Applications

When you enter the UNC path, be sure you have the syntax listed correctly.
\\YOUR BES SERVER NAME\C$\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion

So I copied the Opera Mini folder to be under the Loader Files directory(it was already under applications), and now it shows in the display.

Strange.

I tried to send the config to myself, but I am not getting the opera icon on my unit. Any logs I can check to see what is happening? The Configuration Status for my user says OK, but the Status Check Time is blank. Perhaps I need to do something in the app policy?

I wasnt patient enough for the config to push down. I read some more messages and did a deploy applcations for my user and that made it work.

Still not sure about the copy directory part and why it worked. I guess I should copy anything I need to deploy over to Loader Files, or is this too wierd that I still need to determine why it happened?

Make sure you change the Policy drop down to Wireless not Wireline if you want it to come OTA.
