Can you use the same CAL on more than one BES servers in a domain? I just joined a new company and found it has 3 BES 4 servers running under the same CAL. None of the server has used all licenses (for example, 15/20, 10/20 and 17/20) but overall it has exceeded 20 (32/20). I didn't know it will work but in fact all has been working fine. I called RIM support and no one can give me a clear answer. Does anyone know how the CAL works and how BES tracks the license usage for each CAL or not?

Yes, you can do that, RIM doesn't track CALs, but legally you are not allowed to have more users than you paid for.

For example, we have a 200 user CAL. We have a production instance and a test instance (different BES domain, different SRP). We use the same CAL on both instances (using 200 in production and 5 in test). So we are really using 205 licenses, but have only bought 200. As those 5 licenses only used for testing, there should be no problem.

But if you are using 32 production licenses, but have only paid for 20, you should probably buy additional 12 licenses. Or go to BES Express, which is free.
