Default software update to 4.0

Please Login to Remove!

This issue was probably addressed here before but I could not find it in my search. My existing 6710 broke and I got a refurbished one. I have it set up and it seems to be working ok. The 6710 came with version 3.6.0.87. My existing Desktop Manager is version 4.0.0.30. When I try to update the blackberry it says there is no new application. My old unit had 4.0. I am guessing that maybe since it downloaded 4.0 to the old unit it thinks it does not need to download it again. I downloaded the new software today. I said the unit was a 6710 with 16MB but I am not sure about the MBs.
So my question is how do I update the software.

Did you delete the vendor.xml file from the Common Files directory and then try to start up the Desktop Manager? I'm assuming you already have the firmware installed under your Desktop Manager as well.

The 6710's are issued in a 8MB and 16MB, MB means megabytes (memory). Held held version 4.0 is to large of a file and will only work with the 16MB 6710 units. I ran into this problem with a user at work. Important Note: To determine how much memory your BlackBerry 6710 has, remove the battery cover and battery from your handheld. On the upper right corner of the label inside the battery well, you will see "6710-16MB" if your handheld has 16 MB of memory. If you do not see "16MB" listed on the label then your handheld has 8 MB of memory. For further assistance, please view the image of a BlackBerry 6710's inner label. I hope this helps, sometimes when they send rerubs they just send what they can and they don't taken into account which handheld software your using.

I hope this helps.
