IMO means In My Opinion. That should give you an idea of where hdawg drew his conclusion.
In this case, as well as almost every other case, I completely agree with him.

An intercepting proxy (also known as a "transparent proxy") combines a proxy server with a gateway. Connections made by client browsers through the gateway are redirected through the proxy without client-side configuration (or often knowledge).

Intercepting proxies are commonly used in businesses to prevent avoidance of acceptable use policy, and to ease administrative burden, since no client browser configuration is required.

It is often possible to detect the use of an intercepting proxy server by comparing the external IP address to the address seen by an external web server, or by examining the HTTP headers on the server side.

It should be like that

Intercept and/or redirect the traffic to the chosen port. Having the proxy on the same machine as the interceptor is preferable. The code example uses iptables as the redirection mechanism, and port 8080 as the proxy's http_port.
To a different machine

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i $INTERFACE -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to 10.0.3.1:8080
To the same machine

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i $INTERFACE -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 8080
Squid configuration

In the squid.conf file, configure these options:

* httpd_accel_host virtual
* httpd_accel_port 80
(or whatever port you want to proxy)
* httpd_accel_with_proxy on
* httpd_accel_uses_host_header on

Quick question....What kind of strain would the SQL database put on a server with only 1 user using Enterprise?

The reason I ask is because my server already has 7 other SQL databases running for high-demand programs....

If you are installing it for one user on a dedicated server then just use MSDE.

I have the small business version, I think its BlackBerry Professional Software?

I'd like to install it because I want full Microsoft Outlook capabilities, but need to know what kind of a strain it may have on our server.....

You do not gain anything in Outlook with SQL.

After 500 users you would want it on SQL because of performance issues.

I have a question about the following:

We outsourced our installation of BES and they installed it on the Exchange Server. With what you have listed above, is this a serious problem that we should consider relocating our BES server to another box?

Must be BES pro. Dont worry about it until you get closer to the 30 users mark or performance is affected. then you will need a sepearte server.

THIS THREAD IS GREAT!!!

These are not prerequisites for installation per se but, like the Spam filtering section, can help prevent problems post-installation (such as the Red X when sending).

Assumes that the hotfix in KB926666 has been installed on the Exchange mailbox servers, which I think is a pretty sound assumption.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Give the BES Service Account Send As permissions on all the Active Directory Users who are going to have BB accounts. Do this with ADUC with the Advanced Features checked, so you can see the Security tab.

Remove Active Directory Users who are going to have BB accounts from any Active Directory Groups that nest back into the BUILTIN Administrators, Account Operators, Server Operators, Print Operators and Backup Operators groups. Create them non-mail-enabled accounts and restore the BUILTIN group memberships to the new accounts. Have them log into ONLY the new accounts when they need to run as administrators and use the original accounts for general logon, email etc.

Last edited by guppy413; 01-14-2009 at 05:07 PM.. Reason: Mistyped the number of the hotfix. sorry

Should also mention the impact of IOPS that BES will create.

"You will need to install Microsoft Exchange 2003 System Manager ONLY"

Installing BES on Server 2008. I take it you install the Enterprise version of exchange tools and not the std version?
Ive selected Custom and then install - system management tools
I get the message iis snap-in component of iis is not installed. I have added the webserver iis role with the defaults. So what is the exchange sys management after?

Edit: ok just used mapi&CDO instead.
