I'm with you, mendes9, the new OS has caused a significant overall slowdown in my BB. Things like marking mail as read, switching applications, even dialing phone numbers are all significantly slower than before. It's not unusable, but it's definitely a step in the wrong direction.

That said, the improved functionality in a couple of areas is still worth the switch, at least for me.

So, I took the plunge and did the upgrade. Everything seemed to go just fine during the upgrade process. It didn't take nearly as long as I expected -- not as long as estimated in the first post of this thread. It took about 25 minutes total.

I do notice some things are just a little slower. I'm used to having all the app icons on the main screen, but I guess I'll get used to having to click twice for some of them -- unless someone knows how to put them back on the main screen.

One thing got screwed up -- all my custom mp3 ringtones are now shown as .mid files and they don't play. I have (had) 17 custom ringtones that I had created. Now I guess I'll have to re-do them.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Otherwise, everything is fine.

I get three days out of mine on light use, through the week I get maybe two. I do use the holster so it puts it to sleep when not in use that save the battery alot.

Yesterday I sent 121 emails made at least 65 phone calls all using bluetooth. BB messenger sent 30 Pin messages. Ran Jivetalk all day, Viigio all day when I got home I had used 1/4 of my battery.

I think the battery time has gotten better I run the bphone zen theme. Its weird that the OS causes so many different things in different devices.

I did the upgrade before the holidays to my Sprint 8703e, and the GPS with BB Maps no longer works. It works with Beyond 411 though. I'm not sure how to fix since I uninstalled and reinstalled BB Maps.

I updated my Sprint 8703e to 4.2 and it worked like a charm. However, the Sprint software that allows me to use the Blackberry as a mobile broadband connection for my laptop no longer works I'm assuming because it does not see the Blackberry as a Sprint device anymore (maybe because of the deletion of the vendor.xml file?).

Any other Sprint users successful in upgrading and still being able to use the Sprint mobile broadband software?

This is probably because of incompatibility between the Sprint connection software and the 4.2.1 device OS. You may need to set it up as a DUN (if plausible), or simply revert to the 4.1 OS to make it work.

After installing my 4.2 upgrade, I didn't notice any real significant changes in battery drain/life. The OS itself may be a bit more robust, where it may tax the processor a bit more, thus raising power consumption...but again, the difference in battery life on my unit after the upgrade was minimal.

On all other areas, my upgrade went smooth...and so far, very painless. It did cause my Yahoo Messenger Icon to disappear...but after a removal and reinstall of YIM, all was good. The OS itself is a tad slower than 4.1. Kind of reminds me of when I upgraded my Win98 to XP for the first time.

Daphne, my mp3 ringtones transferred over fine...without any conversion.

I thought that I was able to insert notes on phone activity in the phone log, but I could not find a way to do it...I see that you can enter notes during a phone call.

Also, wasn't 4.2 supposed to add MMS capabilities?

I had no trouble with that at all. Just plugged it and it worked. I did not do anything to the software on the computer, I just updated the BB from 4.1.x.x to 4.2

My only problem is with BB maps and GPS.

The new update has now messed up my entire bluetooth system!

When I get into my car (2005 BMW M3) it used to connect right to the bluetooth system and transfer over. Now it connects but doesn't actually work through it. It just cuts off all my calls. And then when I go to turn off bluetooth it doesnt work! I have to do a reset (take battery out) in order to get it to work again.

Frustrating.......

Another potential rollback...

Does anyone know how to change the way the Viberate+Tone setting works in 4.2?

In 4.1 when you set it to Viberate+Tone the Blackberry would vibrate twice and then start ringing. In 4.2 it seems (at least with my VZW 8703e Blackberry) if I set it to Viberate+Tone it would Vibrate, then ring and then vibrate again and it repeats the cycle. Is there anyway of getting it to vibrate twice and then start ringing like it did in 4.1??

In the profiles you can set #rings & #vibrates.

Right, but I don't have the option of setting the number of rings just vibrates (for phone).

Just Upgraded and have one major issue - any one know a workaround? I am not able to use VZAccess Manager to use my BB as a tethered modem any more - when you open the application it goes through the set up again and can not detect the modem - sees the device though.

Works without a hitch for me... I assume that you have the BroadbandAccess Connect feature enabled on the account. What version of the Desktop Manager and the VZAccess Manager are you using? I am using v4.3, and 6.2.1 (1725a), respectively. Try installing the latest VZAccess Manager again in case the driver was corrupted.

8703e on Sprint. You guys scare me. I'm on the Sprint BIS - no BES. The major 3rd party apps I use daily are PocketDay (not crazy about it, but it's the only thing that will show me calendar and tasks on one screen), ToDoMatrix, and IdeaMatrix. Yeah, I know todomatrix doesn't sync with PocketDay tasks. I am currently doing double duty. Like the features of todomatrix but the quick view of today is important for me. I'm probably gonna stop using PocketDay/BB tasks soon and go 100% todomatrix.

Too many issues/problems reported. Works fine for some, problems for others. Reinstalling software. Who knows whtat I'll encounter. I think I"ll wait for something better or until I get a new BB.

I tried to re-install the pogram again and still hangs at the same spot - once you install the software and it gets to the screen to detect the modem and launch the Phone & Modem Options it never launches - tried opening it manually and does not detect modem - running Windows Vista

will this software update work on a telus 8703? And if so, how do you install it?
