Profile Exceptions vs Contact Alerts
Please Login to Remove!
I think this is more of an OS 5.0 issue than this specific hardware, but it's worth asking.
Has anyone found a way to have a different alert for EACH "Message" type for a contact, rather than one alert to cover them all?
I'm REALLY missing Profile Exceptions.

I haven't run across anything. What I don't like is having to set the message tone when setting a custom ring tone for a contact. I can't understand why there isn't an option for "Active Profile" for the tone like there is for every other setting.
If I get enough custom tones for contacts and then I decide to change the default tone for messages, I will have to go into each contact and also change their custom message tone. What a pain that could be. If I could just set the tone to "Active Profile" then I wouldn't have to bother.

Yea, I was noticing that as I started to add in all my entries.
RIM always manages to make *almost* perfect devices.

Yeah. It's not a big deal for me at the moment, but I could see that getting out of control quick. Maybe they will add the "Active Profile" option to the tone sometime in the future.

That wouldn't be too bad. But I'd love to see something a little more robust come out inside Contact Alerts.

From my testing it also appears that "messages" don't include SMS texts.
That's a *huge* let down.

FYI - Version .405 now includes ALL "message" types. That means that SMS, MMS, etc are now all covered.
Not as good as Profile Exceptions, but its getting better for me, as this was one of my biggest complaints.

Well, I'm going back to .351, and here is why:
.405 HAS:
1. Fixed SMS / MMS alerts (they now give the same sound as "Messages" for that contact. - Exception: You have a contact that is on both BB Messenger and SMS. The Profile BB Messenger plays instead of the Contact's "Messages" Alert when you are SMS'd or BBMessenger'd.
2. Fixed option in Pictures option for Thumbnails per row.
3. REMOVED the ability to filter what messages get shown in the main messages icon - This is a biggy.
4. Huge lag added back into the browse function when scrolling to select a profile sound.
5. Red Alert Badges on FOLDERS are broken. It is shown once, and never goes away.
6. Certain profile alerts (beejive) still aren't saved after a reboot.

Just an FYI, .421 has been released, and I'm going to be installing it shortly.

I just came across this thread after posting a new thread about this issue. I absolutely HATE the fact that you cannot set the 'messages' section of a contact alert to follow the default profile.
I am far more concerned about a custom alert for a Level 1 message than a custom alert for a contact, yet I do need a custom ring tone for a contact.
If they are going to provide more than a custom ring tone then they MUST implement the option for each type of alert to follow the selected profile.
Bad bad bad... RIM please fix!
