Default Stolen Curve 8900 help?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I just received a new Blackberry Curve 8900 for Christmas and I proceeded to lose track of it on New Year's Eve. I think it may have been stolen since I had it with me in a single room the entire night. Here's why I think it got stolen:

1) It was not in the apartment where I was all night
2) It rang when it was called for over a day and a half before it stopped ringing meaning
a) the battery died
b) someone turned it off
c) someone removed the SIM card
I believe that c) is that case and here is why:
It still says that I am on BBM which could mean that whoever has the phone is using my BBM services
I checked the Data Records and I saw that last night around 1:28 AM (over a day after the last time I used the phone) a data transfer to wap.cingular of 33744 kb was made. This is BY FAR the biggest transfer I have ever seen in my records so something fishy is going on.

Please tell me if you see a fault in my Logic or at least explain why I'm on BBM still and why this data transfer took place.

Thanks guys!

The first thing you should do, if you haven't already, is to call AT&T and report is stolen. They can lock out the PIN/IMEI and make it so the device cannot be activated by someone else, and make the SIM card invalid.

Sorry for your BB loss...that sucks.

And make sure you cancel the BIS account in case ATT doesn't ban the PIN (they don't always do it for some strange reason).

what if I dont want to deactivate it. Is it possible to track down the theif without deactivating it or is this a lost cause. What if the phone turns up, will I lose all of my SIM card information?

Finally, what on earth can account for the enormous data transfer. Is that an indication of a theft (jailbreaking?)

if you don't deactivate it then basically they can just throw away your simcard, unlock the phone for any carrier and sell it for 100~$.lol

lock it and **** them over D:<
If they took out the sim, they can't track it anymore. How would the phone turn up if it was a thief lol.

There are things you may have been able to do track but that had to be done in advance. The key now is to do contact the carrier and focus on the things stated above.

Or they could also run up your bill by making a bunch of international calls. The longer you wait to report it stolen, the less chance that they will reimburse you any fees the thief rings up.
