Default Debugging with Intellij?

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to setup a blackberry development environment using Intellij IDEA 8.1 as my IDE. I have successfully set it up using bb-ant-tools and ant. Building and signing works just fine.

Now, I am trying to get debugging on the simulator working. I start JDWP then from Intellij, I have the configuration point to the server and port of the JDWP instance usually localhost and 8000. It says it connected, but no log statements show up. The simulator get started correctly, but the simulator never leaves the "Debugger Attaching" screen.

Has anyone solved this or gotten debugging to work from Intellij?

I don't actually have an answer to your particular question, but we wasted a lot of time coming up with a development setup for BB. We tried different versions of their dev environments and some sucked more than others, but what did work for us was JDE Plugin 1.0.0.22. It's an old version of their Eclipse integration. It sucks in many ways, but it's usable. The good thing about it is that it uses JDE workspace files, so if anything gets screwed up and you have to destroy the Eclipse workspace (I have to do it several times a day), you can just re-import the project from JDE files.

Their latest and greatest Eclipse plugin is unusable to us. It only supports one source root. I haven't seen a project where all the source files are kept in the same location.

Next developer conference we'll b*tch about it to RIM again.

Good luck.

I will probably code and build with Intellij and then debug with JDE. Doesn't look like there is really any alternative other than Eclipse and I don't want to add another tool to the steps. I just wish I knew why Intellij doesn't attach when it says that it does.

If you ever find an answer to this question drop me a line. I've been struggling for years now trying to get decent Blackberry development done from Idea. FWIW, I just posted a similar question (never knew about JDWP) in another thread.
