It seems just the OTA link has been updated but not the zip file. The one containing the alx and cod file or am I looking at the wrong place?

That wasn't in the original change log, was it? But it works great...

yes it was not there at the beginning - forgot to copy that one over - and your question just made it obvious to me, that I missed that new key in the changelog...

right now I am trying to fix that bug with the "fast" scrolling multi-selection...

No problem -- I just wanted to make sure that I didn't need to select the "I am an old man" font size.

I am confident that you'll lick the "fast" scrolling bug shortly!

BBFileScout update to 0.5.7

What's new? / What's fixed?
All the changes are now listed in the new Changelog page of BBFileScout HP (I hope that's fine with you)

Installation & Update
You will find the download link (incl. OTA) at the BBFileScout Homepage

Once again: Deleting or renaming os relevant files from your Blackberry can harm the core functionality of the device - use this function at your own risk! - Don't blame me, if you have bricked your BB.

A few quick comments and bug reports on BBFileScout v0.5.7:
  1. BBFileScout appears to have fixed the "fast scrolling" bug, but it introduced another bug (but this one might be easier to track down ). If I attempt to scroll select a list of files, the first and last file that I scroll over are not selected. In the following, if I start scrolling at File01 and stop at File08, only File02 through File06 are selected (the first and last files that should be selected are not):
    ..
    • File01.jpg
    File02.jpg
    File03.jpg
    File04.jpg
    File05.jpg
    File06.jpg

    • File07.jpg

    • File08.jpg
    • File09.jpg
    • File10.jpg
    • BBThumbs.dat
  2. There also appears to be a bug with "larger" directories with the new Directory to Playlist menu item. For example, I had a directory with 27 .jpg files, and only the first 121 of the 27 were added to the playlist. It appears that the entire directory is not loaded for processing unless you first scroll to the bottom of the directory -- re-executing Directory to Playlist for the same directory after scrolling to the bottom resulted in a complete playlist (i.e, containing all 27 files).
  3. Please consider processing subdirectories for the Directory to Playlist menu item. For example, I may have a directory called "The Beatles" with a subdirectory for each individual album. I would like to add all Beatles songs to a playlist by simply selecting Directory to Playlist from the top level directory.
Thanks again for all of your hard work and rapid turn-around.

  1. Select file or directores.
  2. Select Store 'file/directory' on Stack from menu.
  3. Navigate to destination directory.
  4. Select Copy/Move 'file/directory' to 'destination' from menu.
Just think of the "stack" as your clipboard.

Thanks for the bug report - for 2 & 3 I have already an idea... 1 might be more tricky - it's very difficult to test/debug with the phone simulators - looks like I would need a physical device here in my hands - but I was stupid enough to order a storm we will see...

a totally different topic - I thought about FTP integration today - but I currently have difficulties to imagine a possible UI... normally I would say each server you are connected too is listed as an additional "root" dir - and so you have to use the new favourites function in order to toggle between local and remote directories...

other option would be to have "splitted" window like we all know it from other FTP-Applications - that might be hard to implement cause of the restricted screen size and resolution... so basically I do not really know, if it's a smart idea to add FTP support in BBFileScout... any suggestions?

FTP support would be cool, but I could only imagine it be used by a selected few.

I typically just install an FTP client on an "as needed" basis since I don't FTP very often..

Of course if the the implementation of FTP would be too troublesome then don't worry too much about it.

Of course you'll probably want the concessus of many other users.

I would prefer the first option. I envision using the stack to copy files to/from the FTP site(s).

Another possibility would be to create a default FTP receiving directory on the microSD card to copy files to -- the user could then move files using BBFileScout. This might be a bit simpler to implement.

Ftp idea sounds decent.

Second idea don't work for me. Too much screen space needed for it. Maybe icon view with previews for pictures?

Great update! Scrolling selection as well as add directory to playlist (including recursive) all work well. Thanks again.

About splitted window idea... How about adding a shortcut that shows direrctory tree? It won't show up and leaves once user selects a directory or backbutton?

Usage pattern:
User presses <shortcut button>.
BBFileScout replaces file and directory list with folder tree view.
User scrolls around and selects directory.
BBFileScout closes treeview and navigates to that directory user selected.

if back button is clicked while in treeview, or clicked <shortcut button> again:
BBFileScout closes tree view but doesn't navigate anywhere.

Ball actions:
up and down act normal.
Left scroll goes to parent of tree and closes the tree from that point.
Right opens the tree from that point and moves to first child.
click selects the directory and exits tree view. BBFileScout will also navigate to that directory in regular view.
