Default Gmail Now Reconciles and Delivery is Immediate

Please Login to Remove!

My Gmail account stopped working a couple of days ago, so I went into BIS and set it up again. Unlike the last time, this time BIS did not prompt me for a POP server (just like Yahoo).

Now mail to my gmail account is delivered within a few seconds. When I delete a mail on my BB, it is deleted in gmail.

Seems like gmail has done a "stealth" upgrade. Has anyone else noticed this?

I didn't do anything to my settings - just deleted and re-added my gmail account in BIS.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular-Blue 7290: BlackBerry7290/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/101)

BBHub reported BIS 2.1 will integrate gmail. They referenced a BlackBerry.com knowlege-base article. I didn't see an inplementation date.

Might be time to upgrade from 1.8, eh?

Gmail does in fact reconcile and real-time push on Verizon's BIS. Although I don't think they implemented all the features..... I've register a few times and I still don't have the new icons.

I didn't get any new icons either after registering, but at least the push Gmail is working.

I am on Cingular. I had my gmail set up to forward to my BB. And after reading here that 2.1 was available for some carriers I decided to set up the Gmail account via BIS yesterday and remove the forward. I now receive any messages sent to the Gmail account instantly.

I found a neat feature I was not aware about.....I had set up filters of a certain email addresses that I receive on a daily basis to "skip the inbox and delete". I did not receive these emails this morning so I went to the trash in Gmail and moved them to the inbox, a few minutes later they showed up as new messages on my BB. Pretty cool.

I also do not have the other icons that are available with the 2.1 upgrade.

After a network outage of a few short minutes, Gmail now appears to be integrated into Cingular BIS in the Los Angeles region as of this post. So far, so good as sent messages appears to be properly reconciling to the Sent folder...

In my case, all new emails in all folders are delivered to my BB. I am subscribed to several technical mailing lists and I've set filters in gmail to skip inbox for them and go directly to the folders. All those emails land up in my BB as well. I wish there was an option to disable all folders, and allow only inbox along with reconciliation (i.e. not the old method of setting special filters for forwarding to BB). I read in some other thread that one can contact google asking them to fix this issue, I sent them an email, but ofcourse haven't received a reply.

now all we need is a "spam option" in our bb, rather than still going to login on gmail and clickin spam :D save so much time back n forth

No. RIM's BIS 2.x does not support remote folder management. You will have to Delete on Handheld, then login to Gmail and select those to archive.

Never knew that service existed on Google. Let us know if you find a way to get the gmail push working.

I sure will..I am praying I can figure this out..I emailed Googles tech support, but I don't expect a response from them...I might just have to deal with 15 minutes intervals until the technology on RIM's end gets better

This is the reply I got from google/gmail team (I am about to try it)

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

To fix the problem you've encountered, please follow these steps:

1. Delete your existing Gmail POP profile from your Blackberry POP settings.
2. Create a new Gmail POP profile, and do not leave messages on Gmail's server.
3. Log in to your Gmail account at mail.google.com, and click 'Settings' at the top of any Gmail page.
4. Open the 'Forwarding and POP' tab, and select 'Disable POP.'
5. Click 'Save Changes.'
6. In the same tab, now select 'Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on.'
7. Click 'Save Changes.'

After following the above steps, please try to download mail onto your Blackberry again. If you still have trouble, please respond to this message, and we'll investigate further.

Sincerely,

The Google Team
