Clifford do you drop calls on 3G more than 2G?

Default Depends on where you are

I get 3g in most of the places I visit. If you are on the outskirts of a city...it may drop to edge speeds.

I haven't dropped any call. Calls are done on a different frequency than the 3g

I used to have a bb 8900 and the 9700 is faster than that and they both haven't dropped calls....BUT all phone companies are heavily dependent on their area and coverage of said area.

I would return it for a mytouch3g. The Android phones (G1, Blur, MyTouch) are capable of the new 7.2 hpta+ 3g speed that T-mobile is rolling out.

the blackberries ARE limited to the standarrd hpta (minus the plus) speed (which is ok with me...it's an email messaging device to me;) But they aren't nearly as fast as the Tmo Android/Google phones as far as 3G

Default 9000 on T-mobile?

You had an unlocked ATT bb 9000 on T-mobile?

Or they had a 9000 on at&T, and moved to t-mobile and got the 9700.

Default 9000 wouldn't be 3g on tmo though

The 9000 only had AT&T 3G frequencies...so it could only function at Edge speed on T-mobile. Tmo has different 3G speeds.

This is my second BRAND NEW 9700. I have a brand new SIM card as well. I'm in Tampa, FL which is saturated according to the map. With 3G turned on I have never seen it fall back to an EDGE icon but like I said the connection is either non-existant or might as well be. I'm running on 5.0.0.330. Do you think a leaked software update would help??

I know, but no where does it mention that they had an 9000 on 3G on t-mobile.
Only that when they had a 9000, they didn't have a problem. It mentions no network for that.
So what I said was true.
They could have had an AT&T 9000 on AT&T, and have now switched to a 9700 on T-mobile.

I didn't think 3G was any faster at first, at least it didn't seem any slower than 2G. As I have used it for a while I do notice the difference now. However, I think it has a lot to do with the available bandwidth (usage) like any other connection. Sometimes it seems slower than at others. I lost my links to the mobile speed test. Maybe someone else has them. That's how I proved to myself 3G was faster than 2G.

Mobile speed test are inaccurate on BlackBerries bc they go through a proxy. Most speed tests will tell you that including mobilespeedtest.com

And I posted this on the Latest OS version thread as well but I do need an answer:

I never had a problem installing an upgrade on my 8900. Anytime I've ever tried an update on my 9700 it always says "No changes required" every single time. I've upgraded BlackBerrys at least 75 times in my life why is the Bold such a pain in the balls?

Looks like you didn't get an answer to this! Sometimes installing the software through desktop manager can be a PITA and your best bet is to find the App Loader (Loader.exe in the program files\common files\research in motion folder) and use that to do your update.

For some reason loading .423 had to be done through the app loader as desktop manager refused to do anything with it... Odd, but whatever, I know the app loader method is reliable as well.

No, my company pays for an AT&T phone ('for work') so I use both carriers.

I called T-mobile on that (after seeing so many people using new builds) and they said some of these releases are not 'approved' by T-mobile yet. The new builds don't necessarily support UMA technology, this that or the other thing...etc, etc..

AND since they aren't having alot of trouble with the present build they would rather new builds 'beta' test further.

The t-mobile BB phones will only be allowed to upgrade through Desktop Manager when T-mobile tells RIM that they want the phones to upgrade.
