Only difference I know for sure is RIM has said that you need version 4.5.0.81 or better to use the new 16 GB memory cards (>.81 only supports up to 8 GB). I have a new 16GB card arriving in the mail Monday or Tuesday, so I needed this release.

Hi Guys:

I'm on Sprint with the Pearl 8130. I followed instructions and deleted the vendol.xml file after installing Desktop Software version 4.5 , I did not get a screen that prompts me to update the phone's "OS" from the current 4.3.0.71 to 4.5..... so nothing has changed in the phone.

Was I suppose to delete any other file (e.g. device.xml?) or do something else on the phone. ?

I'm still running the last stable version of 4.3.x, what's the difference between that and the new 4.5 OS?

Do a search under C:\program files\common files\research in motion just to be sure there isn't a spurious vendor.xml sitting around somewhere gumming up the works.

You should not have to delete/rename any other files to install.

Also - if DM doesn't prompt you automatically, you can also run DM, click on the "Application Loader" and select "Add/Remove Applications" and see if it sees the new OS and does the update.

Just to clarify - Verizon is only offering .77, not .89, so not the newer .89 OS version that is being discussed/downloaded in this thread.

Verizon is typically lagging in their OS releases...

Mike - you list .97 as your current OS - I've checked the carriers this AM and don't see any 8130 carriers offering .97. Is that a beta version you're using?

Never mind - got your reply on the other thread - it's a beta, link on slvr6's blog in the beta forum, not a real carrier release yet.

You need the OS, not the Desktop Software.

ya think that's bad, telus still hasn't released 4.5. they're still only offering 4.3.0.65. i think its time they get on the ball.

I have noticed some memory gains on .89 + Im not having to reset or pull battery as often as .77.
with .77 memory was 16-17meg, now 19-20meg...
Makes me happy!

Go to Options>Media Card and enable mass storage and set it to prompt you when you connect.

Default help!

I am following the instructions on how to upgrade my 8130 to v4.5. I am not getting a prompt to upgrade and when I try to upgrade through the Desktop Manager, it says "There is no upgrade required for your device". What am I doing wrong?

You need to delete or rename "vendor.xml" on your computer.

Re-read and reconfirm that you are following all the instructions in the first post in this thread.

You have to download and then install the new OS on your PC, delete/rename the vendor.xml file, etc...

Are you sure you didn't skip a step?

hey guys i upgraded my friends 8130 with new os. technically it was 4.5.97 i believe. anyway, everything is fine yet she still is unable to send mms. we resent service books from the blackberry. the thing that is weird is that i can send her video mms and picture messages and she receives them with out a hitch. she also has the new option to send mms. but whenever she does its just a red X. is this common? is there a fix. do you guys recommend something that i havent tried yet. thanks!

There are issues with Alltel and MMS on the BB and with OS 4.5. Use the search bar above and type in Alltel MMS and read through some of the posts.
