Please Login to Remove!

when updating your os, remember to remove your memory card if you have one. mine did something crazy with it, and i had to format it and put everything back on it again. although i love the new browser, i hate that i cant use multitap!!! im going to reinstall it after i get off of work. suretype is nice though, i never gave it a chance before. when you click on the compose icon and try to select and address to send an sms to it calls them instead of sending a text, i dont know if thats a problem with my settings, but thats onething i've noticed. also, half of my ringtones dont work on the phone anymore for some reason....

I've applied this update and my 8100 (Rogers version but unlocked and used on Fido) works like a charm.

Just curious, did this update add any new themes by chance? I didn't see any new ones.

Hey, my MemoPad and Tasks, as well as Brickberry and Maps are missing. Everything that is standard except for Search and Calculator. I saw how to fix the Maps, but how do I get everything else back? thanks.

Voice quality on mine is MUCH better since upgrading yesterday! I've always suffered from the garbled crap that Cingular thinks is acceptable voice quality for a phone call, but after 5 different calls last night I'm a lot happier! :D

might be a good idea to re-register your host routing table again....options/advanced options/host routing table....menu-->register.

Talking Still lovin' it!

A little over 24 hours w/ the new OS. No problems as of yet... I have noticed, as was stated a few blocks up, the voice quality is much better... louder and more clear!

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who noticed the better voice quality after the upgrade. Thought I was losing it when nobody else mentioned it. :p

This was my first update of my Pearl, I come from the land of Moto's and WM updates so I was a bit leery about this. I had to battle the extremely slow page to actually download the files, but I finally got it all. I have to say the update process goes very easily, I had no issues with my update.

I'm pretty happy with the update, the SMS/MMS menu is a nice touch and I agree with the voice quality improvement. In the media player (besides what looks like new icons), the music section now displays the song - artist along with the length of the song. Which is cool but slows down the display a bit. There's an option, I'm not sure if it is new or not, but you can toggle whether music plays out the handset speaker or the speaker phone one. Image previews don't seem to load a whole lot faster on my phone.

EDIT: After switching my theme over to one of the newer themes I gained from changing the .alx file, I have new icons (new folders). I also have my thumbnails load MUCH faster. Odd that a theme would make this much difference.

only thing i miss since 4.2.0.64 is the list of items when you press menu in the tmo zen theme.....

there are 2 tmo zen themes (i unlocked all the themes using the file in the first post). the 2nd one has a "web-n-walk" thing instead of the "browser" label. which country tmo theme is that ?

also, anyone have an unlock all themes file with the 4.2.0.64 flavor tmo zen theme ?
i prefer the list over the icons all over the screen when you press menu....

Default .94 to .96 - Is it really worth the upgrade?

What is the consensus for those that have taken this small upgrade leap. Has it created any real improvement? From what I have read not much if anything noticeable has changed? True?

i never tried .94, but i can tell you that going from 4.2.0.64 to 4.2.1.96 was basically pointless for me as i did not notice really any changes to the OS.

just some changed icons, a few added menu items to some options, and that issue with the 5 sec. lag when you pick up a call using the green button.

i am thinking of reverting back to .64.....suited my needs and tastes perfect.

I would agree that there are no major upgrades. It seems like its just subtle upgrades that make things a tad easier and more stable. I have no reason to downgrade back to any previous versions.

T-Mobile's current release doesn't do that stupid double letter thing in the phone app...

There are other reasons to keep up with OS upgrades. Many times RIM opens up new API's for 3rd party app developers that require the latest OS's (i.e. 4.2.1 vs. 4.2.0.) If you choose to stay back with old OS's you *may* lose some features in 3rd party apps or even lose compatibility with them altogether.

That being said, have you ever read the Quick Start Guides or the Blackberry Pearl Tips guide that is included in the box with the Pearl? Keep in mind that when a new OS update comes out then TMobile has to rewrite all of those for inclusion in the box. I noticed that dialing letters in the phone app is in that guide. So if that feature has a major bug (like it does) that could be why TMo hasn't released that OS. The 4.2.1.96 is a good stable release but RIM really needed to fix that bug.
