Thumbs up A Noobie says hello. HELLO!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone!
I just purchased myself and fiance' a pair of 8900's w t-mobile fam faves plan, w/ the Blackberry Data packages.
I was with AT&T, but made the switch because my contract with them had expired, and I wanted to get a Blackberry. Coming from a Nokia N95, this device is very well laid out, and the software so far is amazing.
Bad news is, she thinks T-Mobile is the worst ever carrier, like Metro PCS kind of service. I have 2 weeks to try T-Mobile, and get out of the contract with them. BUt the price difference between the two providers is substantial.
We go out of town maybe twice a year, but mostly stay around So. Florida.
If anybody can help with this not so technical question, I would appreciate it.

Do I stick to my guns and stay with T Mobile and save the money?
Or go back to At&T and pay the $?
Is T-Mobile that bad?

Are you using Tmo now? How does it work in places you spend the most time?

Welcome... not sure where you are in Florida, but I've had very few reception problems with T-Mobile, and I travel fairly frequently between the Tampa area, Orlando, and South Florida.

Hey, I'm a newbie too... I've had my blackberry for about a week now. I was previously with Verizon for YEARS and they were great until my parents moved into a new home which happened to be in a Verizon dead zone. They were unwilling to put up new antennas and told us we could cancel early without penalty. I first tried out AT&T and the service was HORRIBLE.

I heard T-mobile is improving their service and they actually beat out AT&T in the latest JD Power survey (West coast region). I love T-mobile and i love this 8900, my first blackberry! Again, I'm here in California, so I'm not sure how T-mobile is in Florida. You mentioned that you rarely go out of town, so maybe the T-mobile hotspot option would be good in your situation. I absolutely LOVE the fact that I can use my wireless router for calls at my house. Good luck.

Thank you all for the input. We are in North Palm Beach County. I have had the Service for two days now, and I havent had any problems, but I would say its a little early to make any judgements. Yes, I saw JD Powers ratings, and If I could only get her to take her new Javelin out of its box, and actually TRY the freakin thing before she makes tosses the whole thing back in my lap to begin the painful cancellation process.
This is my first Blackberry, so far the device works very well. Hope to keep it. T Mob's faves is a great feature, adding a huge cushion on the minutes per month you have to pay for. The Blackberry service is also $120 a yr cheaper per phone than AT&T.
$300 per year than Verizon on the total bill.
Funny thing... twenty years ago, I wouldn't have even thought about the annual cost.
(age and wisdom.............. finally?)

Coverage is becoming less and less of an issue as carriers continue to expand. In the end, though, you should really see if the carriers you're considering have coverage where you need them.

I've had T-Mobile since they were Voicestream, having gone through others like AT&T, Cellular One and Bell Atlantic Mobile (now Verizon). Every time we come up from renewal, I do a thorough review with friends and colleagues about their carriers, service experience, customer service experience and connectivity in the regions where I travel. I've had a choice every time for more than 15 years, and every time I wind up coming back to T-Mobile, and I haven't regretted it.

Additionally, I've added on the T-Mobile@Home service to replace my old Verizon landline. With T-Mobile mobile service, the @Home VoIP (actually UMA) service is treated like another add-on line, and costs me a flat $10/month on top of my mobile bill. All in all, I've found their Customer Care and service to be generally excellent. I also love having GSM-based service, so I can swap phones around pretty much at will -- pop my SIM into an old flip phone when I'm going on a camping or canoe trip, into an old RAZR when I want something that will sit flat and unnoticed in a suit pocket, and my 8900 for normal use.

Others clearly have different experiences, but mine have been great with T-Mobile for many years, and I'd be hard-pressed to find a reason to switch. You really owe it to yourself to do a bit of research and understand what your experience -- in your area and where you travel -- is likely to be like, and really understand the differences in plan pricing.
