Default n00b Here: Sprint Curve As Modem Problems (Help Appreciated)

Please Login to Remove!

Hey folks.

I picked up my Curve on eBay the other week and got it all set up at the local Sprint store, and made sure to include Phone As Modem.

Here's what's going on:

-I've tried it both connected and unconnected to the Blackberry internet thing.
-Downloaded the proper program from Sprint.com/downloads
-Turned on the Desktop Manager
-Connected
-Fired up the Sprint Mobile Broadband program

From here it will go to Initializing, but then it will say "Plug in your phone or..." and it won't get off that. I've tried and tried and tried to get it to work on my own, then spent over an hour on Tech Support to get it going. No joy.

This is the email I got from Sprint TS:
Quote:
click start and run type services.msc
open window click ok anew win. will open
find telephony service and double clickto see properties
use drop down menu to set the startup type automamatic
click apply and then click ok reboot pc open
connection mgr./sprint mobile broadband software connect the device to the npc
pressgo test for resolution
(typoes were her's)

Still no joy.

Anyone know how to do this?

You don't need desktop manager open and the sprint broadband program open at the same time. Although thay may not be the issue. Have downloaded the drivers for your curve?

You can always try to uninstall and reinstall the software again. Also from the time you activate service and add the PAM service, you usually gotta wait a few hours for it to actually work.

Yeah I downloaded everything.

What I forgot to put in was this: When I installed, the Connection Manager program from Sprint.com, the 8330 was not listed as one of the phones allowed. Sprint Store said this means the Curve would not be supported, but Sprint Tech Support said that's BS.

Turns out I'm having the same issue. I just got my curve but haven't tried PAM yet. The sprint software won't even detect my 8330. Desktop Manager detects it fine. I had no issues with my pearl previously. Any HELP!?!?!?!

I finally got it working. I checked the device manager to make sure the driver was properly installed or the BB. I noticed it wasn't installed correctly (yellow exclamation) so I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and all of a sudden the smartview software detected my 8330 and connected. I'm actually typing this tethering through my curve instead of my wifi connection.

Baldie, if you emailed me I never got it. I spaced my email address out so spammers coudln't lock onto it. I still can't PM right now since I don't have 15 posts.

WOOHOOO!! Thanks for the help. My computer's being a little cranky now when I'm on the house internet (it keeps wanting to connect to the PAM), but I'll get it figured out. Now I can surf at work again!

Default 8330 as modem

I guess after hours on the phone with tech support, trying to figure out why my wifes new curve wouldn;t work as PAM ( not to mention losing it as a "freebie" ) after recently switching from a 8830. I figured out I was using the wrong Software from Sprint.
The software needed is SMARTVIEW not Sprint Mobile Broadband software.
I feel like an a$$, but the folks at sprint REALLY oughta, as the have NO clue.
Hours on the phone
Hope this may help some poor bloke.

BTW even downloaded molbileshark, that is painfully slooooow.
