GPS problems?
Please Login to Remove!
I have been having some issues with my blackberry maps and google maps. Sometimes as soon as I turn them on they locate me instantly and sometimes they never locate me through gps. My google maps will say waiting for gps and my blackberry maps will say searching for satelites. Now this even happens to me when I am outside and there are no clouds in the sky but when it works, it even works inside places so I don't think it is an interference problem. I was outside in downtown St. Louis and it would have really come in handy but I had to use the map manually. Thats no fun when you know you have gps. Any suggestions?

GPS may not work at the starting time when you are moving. Try to stay at a certain place and try to locate again

I think there are some problems with GPS on the newer Blackberry models and the latest Google Maps. I've only got a 'cell tower' location pulled in, but my Tour always says that GPS location is unavailable. Always.
I've opened every permission possible for Google Maps and downloaded Maps 3 times. Never have gotten a GPS location sync yet on my new BB Tour.
Never had a problem on my old Curve - while moving at 80mph or standing still. Rats!

Remember, you need to be outside with a clear view of the sky to get good GPS signals. You can get a fix on GoogleMaps inside since it uses cell tower data to fix your location, hence the 1700 to 2500 meter accuracy.

FWIW, seems to be a more common issue on the CDMA BB's (from what I'm seeing on the different forums).

I am having issues with my Tour the past day with the GPS and was hopeful there was a fix. I seem to do better with BB Maps and my Curve.

Ok, I haven't done much digging as it's really not relevant to my BB but for those of you on CDMA BB's with GPS lock issues you might want to add "PDE" to your list of keywords in addition to "Blackberry" and "GPS". IIRC there's even a related thread in this very subforum.

I have a Tour on Sprint, and Google Maps, Poynt, and Sportypal won't get a gps lock, ever.
On the other hand, Telenav, GPSLogger, and Blackstar are very reliable and get a gps fix almost instantly.
I was sorting through a couple threads here, but didn't really see any fixes. Anyone have any suggestions??
TIA

The only "fix" I've found so far (for my 9630) has been to do a battery pull, or as in my case, a simulated battery pull using the Quick Pull app. Then, my GPS will work for some time, before "going cold" again and being unable to get a fix for a very long time (never waited long enough to see how long, though) -- whether I'm outside or inside and the sky conditions seem completely irrelevant.

That's interesting... Battery pulls don't seem to help me. I'm hoping the next OS upgrade will solve the issues. I'm thinking it must be a software issue, as I've had 2 Tours and they both worked with Telenav, GPS logger, and Blackstar... But not with Google maps, Poynt, or Sportypal.

I discovered with my Verizon Pearl paired with a bluetooth GPS, that Google Maps and BB Maps don't connect to the GPS right away, I can tell that the GPS bluetooth link hasn't been established. If I open GPSed, it connects right away, then GMaps and BB Maps work fine.
