Too late... It definitely does not reset the phone and I hope the microphone is still okay after getting prodded by a toothpick

I guess you missed the little wink symbols which normally means, "I'm kidding".

usually, if you're putting your toothpick somewhere is shouldn't be, it's the toothpick doing the thinking!

I saw that hole at the bottom of the Pearl, about three weeks ago. I thought "cool, a reset button." But I looked around for a microphone hole. On seeing none, I assumed that the hole was for the microphone.

What I did not do was stick a paperclip or some other object in there. I wonder how many people worldwide have assumed that that was a reset hole and jammed something in there.

that sounds to me like some kind of mortal kombat combo....he he

seriously folks stop messing with the threadstarter.

there is a piece of software out there called "softreset"
you can probably find it @ eveek.com

i use it all the time so that i don't have to remove the phone from it's casing/silicone jacket.

if you did a 'wipe handheld' (i think it's in the advanced menu somewhere), and manually deleted all your 3rd party apps, you should be golden.

Well since this thread has been resurrected from the dead, be advised that the program that came out AFTER all this reset discussion is Member Metsfan's soft reset program, with is FREE. [Don't forget to donate for his efforts].

See the sticky on the main page regarding Metsfan's trackball color program and that will take you his website that has the free reset program.

I installed it when it first came out. Works like a charm and does not require you to pull the battery for a reset.

Big question, will RIM or someone incorporate this feature in upcoming versions of an OS? Not sure why RIM treats resetting the Pearl as a non-issue, so much so that it is mentioned only once in a single sentence on page 203 of the then-current manual. [see my other post].
