Default Considering BB from a Palm??

Please Login to Remove!

I am considering switching from a simple cell phone and a Palm Pilot to a BB to keep my appointments. Will a BB be as good with the calendar as a Palm? This is VERY important to me. Can anyone recommend a particular model? In my research, it seems to be a Bold. I will be doing limited texting and will also start surfing the web since they have that capability. I do not want a touch screen.

Thanks!

If you on T Mobile I would go with Bold as you have already come to decide. Get the white one

The one thing I miss from my days with a Palm Treo is the DateBk6 calendar that had a week-at-a-glance view, sometimes called a grid view.Pocket Informant offers an alternate PIM program but haven't liked the layout in past versions. Instead of a vertical alignment in grid view with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday on the left column and Thursday - Sunday on the right like a paper date book, Pocket Informant insisted on Monday in the upper left and Tuesday across from it. Below Monday comes Wednesday, then Thursday next to that, etc. Stupid IMHO, but that's what they offered. I may take another look as the latest version seems to offer the ability to set it up the way I want.

Welcome to WebIS.net - Pocket Informant BlackBerry

Ah, another DateBk fan. I used Palms for about ten years and really loved the read-at-a-glance clarity, configurability and user-friendliness that the guys at Pimlico wrote into this superb piece of software. When I went to a Windows Mobile device (not one of my better decisions) I searched in vain for an equivalent and nothing came close. I spent a fair bit of money trying to find one. Same story for BlackBerry.

Pocket Informant was the closest, but compared with DateBk the interface is nowhere near as intuitive or easy to use. To the extent that I just use the standard software that comes with my Bold.

I heard that the calendar etc has been improved in OS6 so maybe it's worth waiting several months for the slider Bold?

Welcome, from another former Palm and Datebk6 user, now currently using PI for BB.

@rambo - The latest version changes the week view to what you want, using the "toggle views". It's getting closer to being a Datebk6 replacement

I'm using the curve 8520. The calendar works pretty nicely for me! It even has a nice reminder system and such. I'm using wifi rather than the data plan so the internet is quite slow. Other than that I think the blackberry is an excellent phone with the calendar.

Default BB a more-than-suitable Palm replacement

Had several earlier PALM devices, then a Treo 650 (PalmOS), Treo 750 (WM6) and currently have a Curve 8900 (OS5). While the simplicity and ease-of-use of the original PalmOS PIM functions are still a great thing, I think the modern BB will more than meet your needs.

Among current models, the Bold 9700 (AT&T) would seem to be the best model... but a few newer upgrades are about to launch in the next few days/weeks.

Good luck !
