Default Sprint Curve 9330 3G announced

Please Login to Remove!

The Sprint 9330 was announced today.... and I'm really not all that excited.

Will be available Sept 26th online and for business customers, and Oct 10th thru retail stores. Same price as the 8530 - $49.99 (after $100 MIR).

Sprint Newsroom | Popular Series Continues with New BlackBerry Curve 3G from Sprint; Able to be updated to BlackBerry 6

Why am I not excited? Because it WON'T have OS 6 out of the box ('just' OS 5 - that comes in 2011. It will have 512MB memory, and visual voicemail, but.... really? No OS6 right away?

Don't get me wrong, I think it will be a nicer device (build-wise) then the 8530, but still.... to make a big bang, it should have OS6 out of the box.

Same as my post about Verizon's release (tomorrow). It will also not get OS 6, though RIM are releasing the 9300 with OS 6 elsewhere.

It's actually up to the carrier to release the OS, so I put the blame squarely on Big Red and Sprint.

Exactly.
They've gone, "no we don't want OS 6 that we havent spent a year looking at, put damn OS 5 that we have spent a year looking at [and longer before releasing it to other devices] and we'll decide when to release the OS you want to ship it with".

I'm trying not to be so critical, since this device is the 'lower end' model (gotta get the Bold to get the 'Cadillac'), but still.....

Looks like the US carriers are losing interest in BB. Verizon is selling Android devices like hot cakes, WM7 about to be released, aside from the their mainstay business user base, why would anyone want a BB these days. RIM has failed in the consumer market, they have only themselves to blame. OS 6 just coming out now and only one device released in the US featuring it and on a underpowered, underwhelming device to boot.

That price tells me that the focus is to maintain some contracts and get new Blackberry Users. Not necessarily Blackberry Defectors from other carriers
