Unhappy Blackberry Activation Issue

Please Login to Remove!

I have done close to 200 enterprise activations so far. "Sally", "Jerry", "Jimmy" & "Rachel's" (and so forth), their activations went fine...However something is preventing "Fred" from completing the enterprise activation. I wait several minutes and I get an error message on the Blackberry that the "server is not responding". I've tried to activate "Fred" on several different blackberries. (Brand new devices fresh out of the box). What could be wrong with "Fred's" e-mail address? I reset his password on the Exchange server. I added and removed him from the BES...I'm at a loss...I don't know what to tell "Fred"...besides, "Sorry, I can't get a Blackberry activated with your particular e-mail account".

Yes, perhaps it is a double post, but I felt I had to rephrase my question so that the gist is "what is wrong with "Fred's" account. The answers I was getting where all over the place and did not address this specific question. Also I realized I needed to place this in an Exchange specific forum.

Try this:

1) Export Fred's mailbox to PST
2) Delete Fred's mailbox
3) Create Fred a new mailbox
4) Import PST into new mailbox
5) Verify there are no filters on the mailbox
6) Verify Send As permissions
7) Run an IEMSTest
8) Try an activation
9) Report back the results

I have had this happen a number of times. Each time the problem was with the way the carrier had provisioned the phone. T-Mobile is who I was using and BES is a additional option they have to set on their end. Took me a long time for their stupid support staff to figure it out. Had to get our account rep involved.

I just thought of another problem we have run across. Some people have inbox rules set up to move email to another box. I had a user that had a rule set up the moved everything into a subfolder. When BES sends out the "trigger file" for the activation, it is expecting the file to be in the inbox. If it is not there, activation will never work. The problem is easily solved by having the user deactivate their rules wizzard. Once the activation is complete, they can turn it back on.

I'm not an exchange expert. Could you explain how to do 5 6 and 7.

But I tried deleting and recreating the mailbox and tried activation again but I get the same problem. Also for some reason I can't access this mail box through web outlook accesses.

This problem makes no sense to me. The account is no different than any other account. All were created by cloning a template so if all the others work this one should should as well.

#5 - Open up an Outlook profile for this users mailbox and check out the filters (if you can't do this go to the users pc and check out the filters there)

#6 - Review Send As Issue

#7 - iemstest is a tool on the BES generally located in:

C:\program files\research in motion\blackberry enterprise server\tools

Run it from the command line and you'll see the magic of what it does (verifies that the BES Admin account can properly read / write to the users mailbox)

That's a good way of just making sure it is not a mailbox issue.

Open the Event Viewer on the BlackBerry Server. Remove and re-add that user. Refresh the Application log in the Event Viewer. Any warning messages for that user from the BlackBerry Messaging Agent?

Yeah I get these in this order.

When I delete the user:

[AUDIT] Jose L Ventura - User removed from the BES

{Jose L Ventura} Unable to save configuration settings or statistics

{Jose L Ventura} MAPIMailbox::RemovePagerDatabase - OpenMsgStore (0x8004011d) failed, MailboxDN=/o=Charge and Ride/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=id9425, ServerDN=/o=Charge and Ride/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=EXCHANGE-01/cn=Microsoft Private MDB

{Jose L Ventura} Failed to remove BlackBerry configuration folder

Then when I re-add it:

{****@******.com} MAPIMailbox::MAPIMailbox(2) - OpenMsgStore (0x8004011d) failed, MailboxDN=/o=Charge and Ride/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=id9425, ServerDN=/o=Charge and Ride/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=EXCHANGE-01/cn=Microsoft Private MDB

User Jose L Ventura not started

1 user(s) failed to initialize

Also when I check the users inbox the EPT message is sitting there.

That sucks. Don't worry about the ETP message for now. It is useless if the user is not starting.

That 8004011D error is a MAPI_Failoneprovider. If all your users are working fine on the same Exchange and Mailbox store, we can assume no Exchange permissions problems. As a test, can you create a new mailbox and see if the same error messages come up? I am leaning towards that mailbox now for sure.

Is this user in any special groups? such as domain admins?

the mailbox you created ... it was a mailbox for this same user, right?

No. Its no different than any other user. Only difference is the user name and mailbox name.
