Default [HELP] Using Phone/Text without being connected to Mobile Network

Please Login to Remove!

So I currently Just moved back to Florida from Seattle, To find out my GREAT T-Mobile service does not have well, Service.

So I thought, No problem I can make calls/text with my home WIFI network,

Well I connect just like I always have, (Manage Connections > Set up WIFI > Choose Network > Enter WPA)

and activate WIFI under the manage connections (Manage Connections > Choose WIFI Box)

Then in the top corner, It shows UMA sometimes, But then goes back to SOS sometimes.

Im not sure what to do to be able to use my BB to call/text with the network as I cannot use the Mobile network because I do not get it at my home.

Here is my statistics for my phone

Blackberry 8320
Smart Phone EDGE, WI-FI)
V4.5.0.81 (Platform 2.7.0.78)
WLAN 2.3.0.74

First thing I would do is back up the data (using the Backup/Restore function in Desktop Manager) and then upgrade the handheld operating system.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html is the place to start.

You will be able to use voice, SMS and all data functions over the WiFi at home. We don't have signal in the basment of our home; all four people use T-Mobile BlackBerrys with WiFi and UMA.

My problem seem to have went away but they have now returned.

I am connected to Wifi but my phone shows SOS and wont receive/send anything.

It shows my network name at the top of the screen, but when it transfers to UMA it shows tmobile - (network name)

So after reading a ton of forums I have figured out its the UMA losing connection to WIFI. But I could not figure out a solution

Also I have two other BB 8300's (same phone) connected to this network. And they seem to be ok. Just my person phone keeps loosing UMA

EDIT!

As of right now, Its still not connecting to UMA and it says im connected to AT&T - (Network Name)

I'm on a Tmobile phone.. How is that possible?

Edit!

Now it is saying Tmobile - (network name) and is on GSM

Edit!

Now it says EDGE

Under manage connections>mobile network>connection preference, do you have it set to wifi preferred or wifi only?

I have heard of rare instances where a tmobile phone uses an AT&T signal/tower because the tmob signal is very very weak.

Trimix -

It is set to Wifi Preferred.
But usually when im trying to get UMA to work I just turn the mobile network off

Update!

During the day the UMA seemed to start working again, and about 20 minutes ago it went out.
It is now stating at top of screen
"Insert SIM - (Network Name)"

Just did a battery pull and a sim pull and replaced both, Will update status soon.

Edit -

After doing a pull of the battery and sim card, The error about the sim card on the top of the screen has gone away. Maybe it came loose I'm not sure

Also the UMA has come back on and decided to work again for the time being.

I'm wondering if the SIM might be on its way out. Some of the thing you've experienced like seeing SOS and "insert sim" are sometimes indicative of a bad SIM.

If it happens again, might want to try a sim from a different phone (or put your sim in a different phone) and see if the issue comes up still.

If the sim is indeed the issue, Tmobile should be able to replace it free of charge.

Since last posting everything seemed to be going well,

Until about 10 minutes ago, then it went back to SOS

So as always I restated the WIFI and it works for a few moments, then goes back out

update:

I seem to be getting a protocol stock error when it seems to go down.

Not sure if that means anything, But thats all I know.

I am going to keep my eye on the problem and if it persist or becomes more frequent I will be calling Tmobile.

Ok after many times not working, and multiple bat pulls

and sims pulls, now i get a text from "blackberry" saying Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network.

This is getting really old.

If i take it to tmobile what should I tell them?
