Default No preloaded pictures after 4.5/52 upgrade.

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,

I just upgraded to 4.5/52 and I noticed the preloaded blackberry pictures folder is empty. I still have all my card pictures but the factory ones are all gone. I don't really need them but I thought everyone should know.That all I noticed after the upgrade. I'm running 8300 on T-mobile network. The .37 BTW worked fine for me and did not burn my SIM.

That release does not include the pre-installed wallpapers and custom folders. This has been mentioned in a few of the 8300/8310 OS install threads.

If you want those wallpapers and folders, you can get a cod file from another release and move it to the "Java" folder of the current install directory.

Anyone have detailed instructions to do this. The yellow color for the folders is annoying.

Thank you. We will wait for the detailed info. I kind of don't like the yellow folders too

Well, it is more complicated than I can do just now.

An old "net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod" file from .44 release could be used, but the current blackberry.alx file must edited to include it in .52

So.. hold on for now.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 8320)

I figured out how to do it and I edited the alx file to allow the other carrier's themes as well. Once my son is in bed and this storm outside passes I will post how I did it.

So, the first thing I did was grab a copy of the net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod file. I needed to get a version of OS that was 4.5.0.44 so I downloaded the last version for the 8310 that was linked here in this forum. After downloading it, I installed it to my computer like any other BB OS.

Once the install was done, navigate to the following location on your computer:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8310-v4.5.0.44_P2.7.0.61\Java

You should see the net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod file there. I copied it to my desktop.

Then I navigated to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8320-v4.5.0.52_P2.7.0.66\Java and cut and pasted the file there.

Next up I had to figure out where in the BlackBerry.alx file I had to put the needed information. So I opened up the .alx file for the 8310 and searched for the file name. Then I opened up the .alx file for the 8320 and searched for the same section and just copied the section there.

Here is what it looked like:

Code:
            <fileset Java="1.0">
                    <files>
                        net_rim_bb_preloaded_media_crawler.cod
                    </files>
                </fileset>
		<fileset radio="~CDMA-GPRS" Theme="Normal" Colour="True" series="8800|8300" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
                <fileset Theme="Normal" Colour="True" series="8800|8300" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_bbdimension_icon_320x240_b.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
The section in red is the part I had to copy over from the 8310 BlackBerry.alx file. If you open up the file using Notepad, just search for net_rim_bb_preloaded_media_crawler.cod to quickly find that part of the file.

NOTE: I'm using Windows Vista, so I had to open Notepad using Run as administrator for it to allow me to save the file.

Once you have the Blackberry.alx file edited and saved, just run the Application Loader like you would any other time.

Bingo! Now you have the wallpaper and stuff.

For information on unlocking the other carrier's themes just Google search. I have a Sonic Blizzard that my wife just brought home that I need to eat before it melts.

Dave

Wow!! I feel like a NOOB for sure.

Will that work for the 8320? I loaded .52 last week and just now noticed that my preloaded pictures are all missing

Yes, I did this on my 8320. Twice now. It worked great both times.

Dave

That all seemed REALLY complicated. I consider my skills average (maybe slightly above).

Am I going to mess this up?

For those who don't want to edit their .alx file and find a copy of the .cod, I posted a thread with simple instructions and a download for an .alx/.cod type installation for these wallpapers. JSanders posted the link above but I'll post again.

Dave's method above is what I did in my OS but my simple DM install (above) will work, too.

John Clark - the link you and JSanders provided is for reformatting the media card not scanning for music - am I missing something or is that the wrong link?
