Default Make my 7230 work over GPRS network

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,

I got simfree 7230 BB with Desktop software (All versions are up to date), My GSM provider (Orange Israel) don't have any support for Blackberry, Can I simply install the desktop software and use the 7230 with the GPRS to make the wonder work? or do I need to have some type of service from my GSM provider?

Many Thanks

Yes you need service from a GSM/GPRS provider, since the 7230 is a GPRS blackberry, I believe that it MUST have a SIM slot, check under the battery of the unit.

If a provider doesnt support blackberrys then there is no blackberry server, meaning you wont get instant emails.. the phone feature should work, and if your lucky wap may work as well, but i doubt that since there wont be any service books for it.

Actually. If you are on a voice plan, WITH internet usage, you CAN use the blackberry just fine. I run my BB on AT&T 39.99 600 minute plan, with the 29.99 10MB of internet usage, and pay another company such as myblackberry.us for my BES services. So it can be done, it's just not cheaper in most cases. However in my case, ATT offers no voice minutes with their BB plans, so I enjoy this route the best. When you find a service such at myblackberry.us, you get the full use of the blackberry through their gateway, the push email, the internet, the IM'ing abilities, everything. Your ONLY limit is your data usage through your provider.

Default Some more

Hi,

Thanks - I do have SIM (But the Blackberry in not SIMlock...) and the BB can send and get phone calls, my question is - if the only thing I have is a BB 7230 and the desktop software (3.6 SP2) - can I use my BB to get Emails from my desktop computer? or do I need some component that need to be installed in the Cellular operator?

Thanks

Probably, but there should be no reason myblackberry.us can't help you, providing there are payment options available for you.

Family K9,

I am using BES/MDS from the states (Mailstreet), with no problems. There are really no cheap Canadian BES/MDS hosting. You don't pay GST/custom taxes for online services like those you buy, since nothing is shipped between you and them. So you can expect that it's straight exchange rate for that purchase.

I think MyBlackberry.us and Mailstreet will work on a Fido Blackberry :D if you have a Fido data plan.

Default Thanks and a Q

Thanks for the replies!
So do I understand that I am able to get unlimited data from myblackberry.us for 10.00/month?
I am using an unlocked 7280 on FIDO and cannot access data since FIDO is not set upfor it - so would this be "the" solution?
Thanks again,
Nick

Only if your phoneplan already has an Unlimited Fido data plan (for things like web browsing and connecting a Fidophone to a laptop to use it as a modem).

Your megabytes of Internet is limited to the megabytes of your Fido data plan. If you have no Fido data plan, it won't work. It won't work if Fido blocks your access to the BES/MDS over the GPRS connection. However, there are so many BES/MDS services now that you can have a fully functional Blackberry on cellphone networks that doesn't even have Blackberry (and your SIM doesn't need to be provisioned for Blackberry; just data service), as long as the network has GPRS data and you've got a data plan.

This is BYOA (like American Online's "Bring Your Own Access").

You'd just have no BWC at all since the carrier does not provide it. But since you're bringing your own BES/MDS, you've got Blackberry email on Fido :D

(Warning: This may not work on every single carrier. It should probably work on Fido, but you will have to be the guinea pig.)
